    Abstract: In a tightening method for a screw connection of a bolt and a nut by using a tensioning device, a rotary drive, and a process control unit with documentation module, the nut is tightened with the rotary drive by a tightening moment required for the nut to bear against a support. The screw connection is elongated by exerting axial tension on a threaded end of the bolt protruding from the nut. The nut is further tightened while maintaining elongation, and a rotation angle covered during further tightening is detected by a rotation angle sensor. Lengthening of the bolt is calculated from the rotation angle and thread geometry of the screw connection. A longitudinal force in the threaded bolt is calculated from lengthening of the bolt, bolt diameter and bolt length. The calculated longitudinal force and an identifier identifying the screw connection are stored in the documentation module.

    Abstract: A tightening device for a screw connection and a safety device assigned to the tightening device are provided. The screw connection has a bolt and a nut resting on a support surface. The tightening device has a cylinder housing, a hydraulically driven piston arranged in the cylinder housing and moveable along an axis, an exchangeable bush which can be carried on the axis and screwed to the threaded bolt, and a carrier connectable to the threaded nut by force fit or form fit. To prevent jumping of the tightening device on breakage of the bolt, the safety device has a threaded sleeve and a protective arm. The threaded sleeve is arranged outside the cylinder housing and has an internal thread for engaging a threaded bolt adjacent to the bolt. The protective arm is attached to the threaded sleeve and extends over the cylinder housing of the tightening device.

The counter-holding surfaces are provided to bear against the threaded element of the screw connection. The tool carrier has a drive for moving the holding tool between a rest position and a counter-holding position. In the counter-holding position, the counter-holding surfaces bear against the threaded element. The control unit is additionally provided to control the drive of the holding tool by holding tool control signals.

In the working position, the tool is opposite the screw connection to be tightened. The control unit performs, by tool control signals, tightening of the screw connection and rotating of the nut. The control unit has a travel control module with travel controller for moving the tool carrier into the working position. The travel controller stops the traction drive after a predefined travel length has been reached that is a target variable.

The support bracket has a fastening portion with an annular fastening flange with internal spline and a support foot arranged laterally offset from the output shaft and placed against an external counter bearing for diverting reaction torques. Internal and external splines cooperate to rotationally fix the support bracket relative to the gear housing. A locking element on the fastening flange can assume a blocking setting or a release setting. In the blocking setting, the locking element extends partially or completely into the groove and locks the support bracket to the gear housing in longitudinal direction.
