  • Patent number: 11255256
Abstract: An exhaust turbocharger includes an air-guiding section. A spiral channel is formed downstream of a wheel chamber in the air-guiding section. Between the wheel chamber and the spiral channel, a diffuser channel is formed in the air-guiding section. Upstream of the wheel chamber, an inlet channel is formed in the air-guiding section for the inflow of fluid to be compressed. In the inlet channel, a cross-section-changing unit. The cross-section-changing unit comprises an operating element with at least two movable element parts to produce a baffle which can protrude, with the aid of an adjusting unit, into the inlet cross-section rotationally and/or in a translational manner or can be removed from the inlet cross-section. The two element parts are fixedly disposed at one element end jointly in the air-guiding section. A relative movement of the element parts can be brought about in particular in an opposing direction.

  • Patent number: 9181858
Abstract: A turbocharger for use in an internal combustion engine has at least one turbocharger housing, at least one compressor situated inside the turbocharger housing, and at least one turbine situated inside the turbocharger housing. In addition, the turbocharger has at least one sensor device for detecting at least a portion of a gas component of an exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine. The sensor device is at least partially integrated into the turbocharger housing.

  • Patent number: 6564758
Abstract: A method for operating an internal combustion engine with variable gas exchange control times and with variable control times for the inlet and outlet valves includes, in various operating modes, direct exhaust-gas recirculation by the retarded closing of the outlet valve, exhaust-gas retention by the insertion of a compression and expansion phase with closed gas exchange valves, exhaust-gas filling of the combustion space by the opening of the outlet valve in the gas intake phase, with the inlet valve closed, and/or an apportionment of the combustion action, if appropriate combined with an exhaust emission control measure, to a plurality of working strokes of a working cycle. The various operating modes may be set individually for each combustion space and each working cycle. The method may by used, for example, for gasoline and diesel engines of motor vehicles.
