Patent number: 6739317Abstract: In an internal combustion engine, in particular with direct injection, a first fuel pump delivers fuel from a fuel tank to a second fuel pump. This second fuel pump delivers the fuel to a fuel accumulation line. A metering unit is triggered by a control and/or regulating unit and meters the fuel quantity traveling into the inlet of the second fuel pump. In order to simplify the design of the engine and to reduce its cost, the invention proposes that during normal operation, the metering unit is closed when it is without power and that when the control and/or regulating unit is “dead”, the metering unit is without power and the fuel delivery to the metering unit is cut off.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 2002Date of Patent: May 25, 2004Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Andreas Kellner, Juergen Hammer

Patent number: 6722857Abstract: A pump assembly having a main pump and a prefeed pump which pumps fuel out of a tank. The fuel is pumped through a crank chamber of the main pump. Downstream of the crank chamber f the main pump a return line is provided for the portion of the fuel which is used as lubricant to return to the tank. Also downstream of the crank chamber feed course directs fuel to a metering unit and on to the main pump. To make the pump assembly as simply as possible the prefeed pump is mechanically driven, and a zero-feed course branches off between the metering unit and the main feed pump to return fuel to the intake side of the prefeed pump. A throttle is disposed in the zero-feed course.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2002Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Andreas Kellner, Juergen Hammer

Patent number: 6705296Abstract: A method for calibrating a pressure sensor in a fuel metering system and a corresponding device, which enable the pressure sensor to be calibrated as precisely as possible. For this purpose, the instantaneous cooling-water temperature of the internal combustion engine is measured and the drop in the cooling-water temperature is derived therefrom as a measure for the standstill time of the internal combustion engine, the pressure sensor first being calibrated when the standstill time exceeds a predefinable minimum. Thus, an arrangement for monitoring the cooling-water temperature already present per se in the vehicle may be used to reliably and precisely calibrate the pressure sensor. Therefore, this is able to be realized very quickly and almost without extra expenses, in particular without using an additional timing supervision for measuring the standstill time.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 2002Date of Patent: March 16, 2004Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Peter Horstmann, Juergen Hammer

Patent number: 6698396Abstract: The present invention relates to a device and a method for dividing up a total fuel amount, which is to be injected into the combustion chamber of a cylinder during a combustion cycle, into a plurality of injections. To this end, a first fuel amount, which is to be injected during a first injection is determined, a fourth, minimum fuel amount for a third injection is determined, and the total fuel amount minus the first fuel amount is compared to the fourth, minimum fuel amount. When the total fuel amount minus the first fuel amount is greater than or equal to the fourth, minimum fuel amount, the first fuel amount and a second fuel amount, which is to be injected into the combustion chamber of the cylinder during a second injection, are set to zero, and a third fuel amount, which is to be injected during a third injection, is set to the total fuel amount.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2001Date of Patent: March 2, 2004Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Andreas Pfaeffle, Juergen Biester, Martin Grosser, Peter Schubert, Juergen Hammer, Samuel McCaig

Patent number: 6506306Abstract: Wastewater from a chemical-mechanical polishing process (CMP) used in semiconductor chip fabrication has hitherto been, and is still being, discharged into the public sewage system after chemical neutralization and sedimentation. This has the drawback that water consumption is considerable. It is therefore an object of the invention to reduce the total amount of wastewater produced that has to be discharged. This is achieved by the wastewater to be treated being subjected to an ultra-filtration, and at least one of NF an RO. This allows the treated CMP wastewater to be reused within the plant. In particular, it can be recycled in order again to recover therefrom deionized water of a very high purity for operational purposes, e.g. for CMP.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1999Date of Patent: January 14, 2003Assignee: Infineon Technologies AGInventors: Jürgen Hammer, Andre Richter, Werner Kraus, Heinz-Dieter Petermann

Patent number: 6352066Abstract: A common rail system for internal combustion engines, having a high-pressure pump mounted on a part of the engine, especially on an engine block, control gear or reduction gear. For thermal decoupling purposes, the contact areas between the part of the engine and the high-pressure pump are minimized.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1999Date of Patent: March 5, 2002Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Josef Guentert, Uwe Kuhn, Juergen Hammer

Patent number: 6186120Abstract: A high-pressure pump for supplying fuel in a fuel injection system of an internal combustion engine, including a common rail injector system. The fuel injection system includes a low-pressure part that contains a fuel tank and a prefeed pump and a high-pressure part that contains a high-pressure pump and a common rail into which a fuel flow is fed from the high-pressure pump through a common conduit. The high-pressure pump system solves a problem in that there is an integrated demand-based quantity control for the fuel flow pumped by the high-pressure pump. The demand-based quantity control integrated with the high-pressure pump contributes to improving the overall engine efficiency, because the power consumption by the high-pressure pump drops as a result.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 1999Date of Patent: February 13, 2001Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Josef Guentert, Juergen Hammer

Patent number: 6021761Abstract: The invention relates to a high-pressure pump for fuel delivery in fuel injection systems of internal combustion engines, which includes a tank, a pre-feed pump, and the high-pressure pump. The pre-feed pump aspirates a total fuel flow from the tank and this total fuel flow is divided into a lubricating flow, which is conveyed through the high-pressure pump for the purpose of lubrication, and a delivery flow, which is acted on with high pressure by the high-pressure pump and is delivered to a common distributor rail. The fuel injection system prevents damage that could occur during operation. Damage is prevented because the total fuel flow is conveyed through the high-pressure pump for the purpose of lubrication, wherein a metering unit for the total fuel flow is provided in the high-pressure pump or in a return and assures that only a predetermined delivery flow is acted on with high pressure in the high-pressure pump.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1999Date of Patent: February 8, 2000Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Andreas Kellner, Juergen Hammer
