  • Publication number: 20190329546
Abstract: A sheet processing machine, in particular a sheet-fed printing press or a sheet die cutting machine, has a sheet infeed having at least one stop for feeding and aligning sheets, and has a device for monitoring sheet travel along a sheet transport path of the sheet infeed. At least one measurement system, for detecting a lateral sheet edge of the sheet, is provided. A method is also provided for monitoring sheet travel along a sheet transport path in a sheet infeed. An alternative device and an alternative method for monitoring sheet travel along a transport path of a sheet processing machine are provided. At least one sensor, which can be associated with the lateral region of the sheet transport path, and which is configured for the optical detection and determination of the position of a mark on the sheet, is utilized.

  • Patent number: 7677455
Abstract: A safety marking and a method for producing a safety marking according to the CIT principle for printed areas are provided. The safety marking is a two-dimensional or three-dimensional image, the image elements of which are coded in a size and arrangement, which cannot be perceived by the human eye and are visible only with the help of optical decoders. A printable safety marking is created according to the CIT principle, which can be implemented at little expense at any place of a material being printed and therefore also in areas that are not rastered. This is accomplished by a coding of the image elements by locally different reflection properties of a lacquer coating formed from at least two different lacquer layers, the coding being independent of the chrominance and tonal value of the printed area.

  • Patent number: 6829994
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for printing on a substrate for preparing packaging blanks. The substrate is divided into copies, each of these copies having one or more areas for subsequent application of an adhesive, and a printed image produced on the copy by application of an ink film and coated with a lacquer. It is an object of the present invention to develop a method and apparatus for printing on a substrate for preparing packaging blanks, for which specially manufactured lacquer plates are not required. Pursuant to the present invention, this object is accomplished based on the fact that an ink film and a binder customarily used for offset printing inks are used to produce a printed image on a substrate and a lacquer is applied over the surface of the substrate, wherein the binder is applied at areas intended for application of an adhesive and the lacquer is absorbed by the binder.

  • Patent number: 6655288
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for spot coating on printing substrates in large size printing machines producing printed images by application of an ink layer on the printing substrates. The invention provides a method and apparatus for spot coating of printing substrates also applicable in large size printing presses. The present invention uses a universally applicable offset plate to coat substantially the entire area of a printed image, wherein the coating reacts with ink layers of at least two ink systems thereby changing the printed image so that areas of varying gloss degrees are created. The present invention uses a conventional printing press comprising at least two printing units for printing at least two ink systems, an optional dryer allocated to the printing units, and a coating unit for application of the final coating layer succeeding the printing units.

  • Patent number: 6637338
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for preparing varying degrees of gloss on printed matter in printing machines producing printed images on printed matter by application of an ink layer. An object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing varying degrees of gloss on printed matter with only one coating tower which comprises only one coating unit and no especially manufactured coating plate. The method according to the present invention comprises applying an ink layer from at least two ink systems on a substrate to be printed to produce a printed image. The printed image is subsequently coated with a coating, whereby each ink system changes degree of gloss in reaction with the coating layer.
