  • Patent number: 6157592
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for rapid and improved accuracy acoustic position determination comprising simultaneous and mutually distinguishable wide-band acoustic transmissions emitted from a plurality of spatially diverse transmitters and reception thereof by one or more receivers. The receivers identify the transmitters by directly (non-demodulated) correlating the received signal against stored or regenerated replicas of the transmitted signals. The location of the receiver is determined relative to the identified transmitter locations according to the measured times-of-flight from the identified transmitters to the receiver. Further embodiments of the method and apparatus of the present invention provides yaw, pitch and roll determination with a plurality of co-located receivers, and an extended and enhanced operating area.

  • Patent number: 5111174
Abstract: A high frequency power transformer having a multi-element magnetic shield conforming to the surface of the structure including provisions for specific features of the magnetic circuit and winding assembly. The winding is disposed on one side of a four-sided magnetic circuit and is partially surrounded by a close fitting electrically continuous loop. The winding assembly includes an area having a higher electrostatic field and is surrounded by a second electrically continuous loop which is spaced apart from the winding assembly, providing significant electrostatic shielding and air movement over the winding assembly while avoiding arcing between the shield and the winding assembly due to the high electrostatic field.

  • Patent number: 5097402
Abstract: A power supply operable from power mains voltages generally within two voltage ranges according to which the power supply automatically switches between a full wave and a voltage doubler. Furthermore, the power supply provides automatic mode selection on a cycle-by-cycle basis, sensing the mains signal during an initial portion of the mains input cycle and causing the power supply to select a mode of operation during that cycle. Thus, the present invention provides rapid response to changing mains voltages. Moreover, the voltage doubler mode is inhibited during the initial power up period, providing a margin of safety when initially energized or when connected to rapidly changing mains voltages.

  • Patent number: 5023525
Abstract: A deflection circuit for providing magnetic deflection of a cathode ray tube including resonant retrace, including circuitry to minimize the variations in intensity of the image at the beginning of the deflection period after the end of the retrace period, which variation may be caused by parasitic resonances excited by slow turn on of the flyback deflection clamping diode. The circuit enables the flyback clamping diode to begin conduction prior to the end of the retrace period so that the deflection clamping diode is substantially fully conducting and the voltage across the magnetic deflection coil is substantially constant at the end of the retrace period. Thus, a uniform transition is made from retrace to linear deflection and screen intensity variations are avoided.

  • Patent number: 4754334
Abstract: An image recorder for providing a CRT image and apparatus to store the image on a film disposed on a film plane. The relative position, intensity and focus parameters of the image are measured during an initial startup of the image recorder, wherein the position, intensity and focus parameters of the CRT and the image thereon are automatically aligned to assure enhanced performance. The apparatus according to the present invention provides an alignment mask disposed in the CRT plane, and the CRT parameters are measured by observation of the light collected through the alignment mask from the CRT and processing the corresponding light intensity signals. The light sensing device provides a signal which is processed typically by a microprocessor controlled geometry engine to derive a set of correction data which is based on a prototype array of initialized data values. The correction data provide signals which are combined with uncorrected CRT deflection signals to provide a corrected signal.

  • Patent number: 4737752
Abstract: A high-performance deflection yoke providing deflection of an electron beam in a CRT at high rates at high deflection angles. The high-performance deflection yoke includes a heat sink contacting the deflection yoke coils to remove the heat produced in the deflection yoke due to core losses and heat produced in the deflection coils due to resistive losses. The heat sink minimizes induced eddy currents and comprises fine wire elements, interwoven and/or in juxtaposition with the deflection coils, wherein the heat created within and picked up by the deflection coils is transferred to the heat sink for dissipation. By minimizing power lost in the heat sink due to inductive heating of the metallic components thereof, the heat sink according to the present invention provides a high-performance deflection yoke having low inductance, high power performance not heretofore practically realizable.
