  • Publication number: 20230192946
Abstract: Disclosed are compositions comprising polyesters containing a chain of residue of: diols and diesters along the chain, wherein at least a portion of the diesters are 1, 1-diester-1-alkenes, and the chains have alkene groups incorporated into the chains; the composition comprising one or more of the following: i ether groups derived from alcohols, diols, polyols, or a combination thereof obtained via Michael addition to the alkene groups and a residue of the alkene groups remaining after Michael addition; ii the formed polyesters contain one percent or less of residual 1, 1-diester-1-alkene which are unreacted; iii one or more free radical inhibitors; and iv a stabilizer comprising one or more of: oxo acids phosphorous or esters thereof, aluminum sulfate, stannous pyrophosphate, stannous sulfate, aluminum dihydrogenphosphate or decomposition products thereof. The stabilizer is present in an amount sufficient to enhance stability of the polyester without lowering reactivity of the polyester.

  • Publication number: 20220192963
Abstract: An article may be formed by contacting a 1,1-dicarbonyl substituted alkene with an activator comprised of an initiating salt and a weak acid and allowing the 1,1-dicarbonyl substituted alkene to cure to form the article. The article may be any useful shape such as a film, coating, layer (e.g., within an additive manufactured article), laminate or the like. The article may be one in which the cured article adheres substrates together.

  • Publication number: 20220153932
Abstract: A liquid 1,1-dicarbonyl substituted 1-alkene prepolymer is formed by reacting a multifunctional 1,1-dicarbonyl substituted-1-alkene and a polythiol or monothiol at a ratio of thiols/carbon-carbon double bonds of 0.001 to 0.5 in the presence of 0.1 parts per million (ppm) to 100 ppm by weight of strong acid, polythiol/monothiol and 1,1-dicarbonyl substituted-1-alkene. Further ingredients, such as other monomers, fillers, and rheological modifiers may be added to form polymerizable compositions. The prepolymer or polymerizable compositions may be addition polymerized to form polymer articles.
