  • Patent number: 5671789
Abstract: A depth of cut lock mechanism for a plunge-type router having a drive motor enclosed within a motor housing. The motor housing is attached to a base plate by a pair of spatially separated guides. Each guide has a guide sleeve attached to the motor housing and a guide tube attached to the base plate and slidably received in the guide sleeve. The lock mechanism has a lock disc rotatable between a lock position and a release position by a manually activated lever displaces the lock disc toward the unlocked position. The lever is pivotable about an axis parallel a guide tube and is located adjacent to a handle of the router so that the lever can be activated by the user while grasping the router handle.

  • Patent number: 5531538
Abstract: A housing apparatus for an electric power tool which has a nose cone, a clam shell housing, and a bearing plate. The nose cone contains a bevel portion, a bearing plate retaining portion, and at least one hole oriented generally transverse to a tool axis for reception of at least one fastener. The clam shell housing has a first and a second housing segment, each having a matching bevel portion for cooperation with the bevel portion of the nose cone. The first and the second housing segments each further have a bearing plate retaining portion and at least hole aligned with the at least hole of the nose cone for simultaneous reception of the at least one fastener. The bearing plate has at least one threaded hole oriented generally transverse to the tool axis for receiving the at least one fastener. The bearing plate is located between the retaining portion of the nose cone and the retaining portion of the clam shell housing.

  • Patent number: 5491896
Abstract: A detail sander having a scraper blade of a shape that allows for different geometric configurations to be oriented into the working position to contact a work surface. Blades may also be adjusted forward or rearward relative to the leg of the sander to allow for changes in the stroke of the sweeping motion produced by the sander. A teardrop shaped blade and a triangular shaped blade having varying geometries about their respective peripheries allow for varying tip geometries to be oriented into the working position of the blade. Additionally, the blades are removable so that different blades may be attached to suit different needs.

  • Patent number: 5353852
Abstract: A depth of cut lock mechanism for a plunge-type router having a drive motor enclosed within a motor housing. The motor housing is attached to a base plate by a pair of spatially separated guides. Each guide has a guide sleeve attached to the motor housing and a guide tube attached to the base plate and slidably received in the guide sleeve. The lock mechanism has a lock disc rotatable between a lock position and a release position. A torsional spring resiliently biases the disc toward the lock position and a manually activated release lever displaces the lock disc toward the unlocked position. A brass plug is axially displaced by the rotation of the lock disc to frictionally lock the guide sleeve and guide tube to each other. A ratchet mechanism is provided to adjust the torque applied to the lock disc by the torsional spring and a release lever lock mechanism is provided to lock the release lever and lock disc in a release position.

  • Patent number: 5348319
Abstract: A chuck for securely holding a cutting tool while being rotated by a driving apparatus. The chuck includes a chuck body defining a tool bore into which the cutting tool may be inserted. A cam assembly is pivotally mounted to the chuck body and operably extends into the tool bore. An actuator cooperates with the chuck body and is positionable to operate the cam to secure or release the cutting tool, within the tool bore. In an alternative embodiment, a collet is used and the cam and actuator operate to secure or release the collet, and any cutting tool inserted into the collet, within the bore.
