Abstract: A printing unit, which is a part of a multi-color printing press, has a plurality of double printing units which are arranged vertically one above the other and consist of two printing groups forming a double print position. The printing group cylinders are mounted together in a central stand section. Inking units, which are associated with the printing groups, are mounted in outer stand sections. A distance between adjacent ones of these stand sections is adjustable. Printing and transfer cylinders of each printing group are coupled by a toothed gear wheel connection and are driven in pairs by a separate drive motor. The toothed gear wheels of all of the printing group cylinders are arranged in a common lubricant chamber which is formed by the central stand section and a cover. The inking systems have at least one separate drive motor, which is independent of the printing group cylinders.

Abstract: A printing press has at least one ink carrier. A printing substance, such as ink is applied to the ink carrier and at least some of that ink is transferred to a substrate at a separation location. A light-hydraulic effect is used to accomplish this separation. Radiation energy that is transferred to the printing substance stimulates this transfer of the print substance to the substrate to be printed. The transport of the radiation energy takes place by the use of at least two energy beams of different wavelengths.

Abstract: A device for drying printed webs or sheets in a printing press utilizes a blower box having a lower wall that is provided with an array of blower nozzles. Each nozzle is formed by a blower opening which is placed in a surface of the depression. The blower openings are oriented in a pattern that promotes complete and efficient paper web or sheet drying and tensioning.

Abstract: A device for supplying and removing printing plates in a rotary printing press having a plate cylinder utilizes a storage container which has a printing plate supply compartment and a printing plate removal compartment. An undivided guide compartment is provided beneath the supply and removal compartments. Guide elements are placed at the mouths of the plate supply and removal compartments and direct the printing plates into and out of the appropriate compartments.

Abstract: A device for tensioning and adjusting flexible printing plates on plate cylinders of rotary printing presses, has as an object to achieve an automatic tensioning and a partial adjustment of the printing plates, in which the width of the cylinder groove as well as the transmission losses are kept low. According to the invention, this object is solved by that the pressure bar is movable in the radial direction via adjustment means, causing a tensioning- and adjustment movement of the printing plate tensioning bar via wedge areas on a secant, intersecting the cylinder groove at an angle of about 90.degree..

Abstract: An adjustable sheet guide assembly utilizes a plurality of individually shiftable sheet guide elements. Each of these sheet guide elements is carried by a sleeve which is concentric about a hollow profile body that carries a rotatable, helically fluted shaft. Guide pins on the sleeves are received in the shaft's flutes so that rotation of the shaft or movement of one sheet guide element causes movement of all of the sheet guide elements in the adjustable sheet guide assembly.

Abstract: A distributor roller for a printing press is usable to distribute fluids or inks by rotational and axial movement. The roller is driven by frictional engagement with a cooperating roller. Axial oscillatory movement of the roller with respect to its roller shaft is accomplished by preventing a drive housing from rotating with the roller body. The distributor roller may be used as an oscillating or non-oscillating ink transport roller.

Abstract: A separating jet blast air control assembly utilizes a regulating valve to control the amount of compressed air supplied to separating and fanning blowers of a sheet feeder. A valve disc that dumps excess compressed air is biased against a valve seat by a biasing spring. The force applied by the biasing spring is adjustable in accordance with an output from a controller in response to production speed, sheet characteristics and other variables.
