Abstract: One or several fabric loops are disposed along the running route of a web of paper. The loops are driven via reversing rollers normally belonging to the paper machine. Air blowers extending along the running route of the fabric loops are disposed so that air jets blown through them support the tail of the web of paper and press it toward the fabric that drives the tail forward in connection with different parts of the machine, such as the calender and other rollers. An additional roller is provided as a continuation of the reversing roller and is provided with a magnetic clutch for connecting and disconnecting it as needed.

Abstract: A roll, such as a filled calender roll of the type used in supercalenders of paper machines, includes an inner shaft and an outer shell which coaxially surrounds the inner shaft and is rotatable with respect thereto. A pair of deflection-compensating structures are provided to act between the shaft and the shell so as to urge the latter outwardly from the shaft at a pair of locations which are situated at different angular positions with respect to the common axis of the shell and shaft. The two deflection-compensating structures provide for compensation for the weight of the entire roll as well as for compensation for pressure acting on the roll at a nip which is defined in part by the roll.

Abstract: A device for braking the rotation of a rotating roll of a sheet material such as paper, cardboard, or the like, when the reeling of the sheet material has been completed. The device is used in connection with a machine which has a rotary reel spool which rotates about its axis during reeling of sheet material thereon. Adjacent one end of the reel spool is a carriage, and both the carriage and the reel spool are guided for free movement along parallel paths perpendicular to the axis of the reel spool so that the carriage can be maintained along the axis of the reel spool during building of the roll of the sheet material thereon.
