    Abstract: Improved systems and methods for establishing peer-to-peer calls such as voice over IP calls and video over IP calls. In various embodiments of the invention, SMTP messages are exchanged between devices using a SMTP server, with the SMTP messages including IP address information. With this arrangement, the need for SIP service providers can be eliminated. In other embodiments of the present invention, SMS messages including IP address information are transmitted between devices during a GSM or other type of telephone call, enabling the call to “migrate” to a VoIP or video over IP call.

    Abstract: This invention describes a method for sharing of application specific objects between communication devices (e.g., a mobile communication device or a mobile phone) using middleware containing a peer-to-peer engine. This engine is completely peer-to-peer based and no servers are needed in the network. Especially games are seen as a promising potential application for the invention. An application registers to the peer-to-peer (P2P) engine when it wants to share or download files. The P2P engine takes care of the file sharing and informs when a new file has been downloaded so the application can start using it and the P2P engine delivers them to the appropriate application directories. The P2P engine can use either a 2G or 3G general packet radio system (GPRS), a wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) or a Bluetooth as a transport for the file sharing and the choice of the transport is left to the user.

    Abstract: A system and method for enforcing digital rights management (DRM) rules in a terminal, even when the requesting rendering application is already operating. Content, which may be encrypted, is received at the terminal and securely stored. On-demand authorization is effected for the rendering application that is requesting access to the content, using secure communications between a DRM engine within the terminal and an operating system within the terminal that is augmented with a security manager adapted to engage in such secure communications. If the rendering application is found to be authorized, the DRM rules are applied to determine whether the rendering application may access the content, and if so, the content is made available to the rendering application.

The inventive concept teaches moreover advantages concepts in establishing the peer-to-peer communication employing an adapted protocol framework and in operating such a data relay service as a generic data relay service for relaying arbitrary data contents.

    Abstract: A system and method for providing mobile assisted, fixed line communication. A device connectable to a mobile network coordinates with a session gateway device that is connected to a fixed line network in order to establish a connection to another gateway device. Signaling over a cellular or other non-fixed line network is used to establish connection parameters relating to a fixed line session. The established connection parameters are transmitted to the respective session gateway devices. Based upon these parameters, the session gateway devices can directly communicate with each other over the Internet or other fixed line network.

    Abstract: A system, apparatus and method for relating a security association to a contact in a namespace familiar to the user, and using this association to make access control decisions. An identifier of a first device is received at a second device. Using the identifier, the second device locates a contact entry corresponding to the identifier in a contact directory. A contact name associated with the identified contact entry is presented to the user of the second device to facilitate user authorization of the wireless proximity connection. An authorization identifier, e.g., a Bluetooth link key, is associated with the contact entry if authorized by the user of the second device. A wireless proximity connection, e.g., a Bluetooth connection, is established between the first and second devices in response to associating the authorization identifier with the entry. When subsequent wireless proximity connection are attempted between the first and second devices, the connection may be automatically established.
