  • Patent number: 11080990
Abstract: An aspect of the invention includes a fire and smoke detection system including a 360-degree camera, and a computing platform in communication with the 360-degree camera. The computing platform is configured to receive an image or video from the 360-degree camera, determine that tire or smoke is detected in the image or video received from the 360-degree camera, and venerate at least one alert in response to determining that fire or smoke is detected in the image or video received from the 360-degree camera. The fire and smoke detection system may be portable and not removably mounted.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 5, 2019
Date of Patent: August 3, 2021
    Assignee: Factory Mutual Insurance Company
Inventors: Jaap De Vries, Stanislav Kostka, Raphael Hussni Leonessa, Kyle Richard Burchesky

  • Patent number: 9452305
Abstract: A radiation-activated sprinkler includes a sprinkler body defining a main orifice, the main orifice adapted to couple to a source of pressurized liquid; a deflector coupled to the body; a valve adapted to seat on the main orifice to block the source of pressurized liquid; a linkage mechanism adapted to retain the valve on the main orifice; and one or more fusible links coupled to the linkage mechanism, wherein the one or more fusible links are located substantially externally with respect to the sprinkler body, deflector, and linkage mechanism. The one or more fusible links are adapted to release when exposed to an amount of radiation that exceeds a predetermined threshold, thereby releasing the linkage mechanism from the valve. Other features and related methods are also described.

  • Publication number: 20160059059
Abstract: A fire sprinkler system can include a plurality of fire sensors, each fire sensor adapted to generate an output signal indicative of a fire state; one or more controllers in communication with the plurality of fire sensors, the one or more controllers adapted to calculate one or more fire locations based on output signals received from one or more of the fire sensors; and a plurality of fire sprinklers in communication with the one or more controllers. The one or more controllers can be adapted to open one or more of the fire sprinklers based on the fire location calculated by the one or more controllers. Other features, as well as methods of controlling, suppressing, and/or extinguishing one or more fires, are also described.
