Publication number: 20240034255Abstract: A solar powered display assembly and related systems and methods are disclosed. A controller is interposed between an electronic display at a housing, an alternative power source external to, but electrically connected to the display assembly at a housing, and a solar energy harvesting device. The controller determines a power requirement for operating the display assembly, determines power available from the solar energy harvesting device, and where the power available from the solar energy harvesting device meets or exceeds the power requirement, sources operational power from the solar energy harvesting device. Where the power available from the solar energy harvesting device falls below the power requirement, the controller sources the power available from the solar energy harvesting device as a portion of the operational power, and sources supplemental power from the alternative power source.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 16, 2023Publication date: February 1, 2024Inventors: William Dunn, Jack Bartholmae, Douglas Bennett

Patent number: 8702307Abstract: Embodiments include a system and method for determining the temperature of the liquid crystal layer of a liquid crystal display. Because LCD performance is dependant on the temperature of the liquid crystal layer, performing particularly poorly in colder temperatures many LCD's are available with integral heaters. Determining the temperature of the liquid crystal layer of an LCD is imperative for appropriate thermal management, which in turn leads to more-optimal LCD lifetime. Exemplary embodiments relate to accurately determining the temperature of the liquid crystal layer of an LCD by employing the integrated heater layer as a temperature sensor. When the relationship between the temperature of the integral heater is known, and the integral heater is disposed very near the liquid crystal layer, then determining the resistance of the metal heater layer, allows for rapid, accurate determination of the average temperature of the liquid crystal layer, and correspondingly better thermal management.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 2008Date of Patent: April 22, 2014Assignee: American Panel CorporationInventor: Jack Bartholmae

Publication number: 20080068653Abstract: The toner in the toner cartridge is determined by taking each of the rasterized images output by the RIP and evaluating the pixel levels over the surface thereof. The average value is determined as a percentage of the maximum toner that can be applied to the page. This is then subtracted from a toner value and a remaining toner level determined. Further, all pages of the rasterized document can be evaluated to predetermine the toner level after printing. If this falls below a predetermined minimum, printing is inhibited for that document.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 23, 2007Publication date: March 20, 2008Inventors: Michael Barry, Jack Bartholmae, Francis Rowe, E.
