  • Patent number: 8661621
Abstract: A casement window hinge protects against sash sag by providing a guide arm that substantially fills the space between the sash and the window frame when the window is closed. This space-filling guide arm may be produced with lightweight thermoplastic material whose pivoting connection to the sash arm may be strengthened through a wood screw providing an axis for the pivot that may be stabilized within the sash into which the screw is driven.

  • Publication number: 20100000051
Abstract: A casement window hinge eliminates the use of rivets in the pivot between the sash arm and guide arm such as require a high force deformation of an element to a precise compression that varies according to a “tolerance stack up” between four controlled dimensions of the parts being assembled: the length of the rivet, the deformation of the rivet head, and the thickness of the two arms being assembled. The invention eliminates two of these dimensions through the use of integrally molded pivot pins that fit into a bore in the second arm and which are plastically flanged. Resistance to a pull-out of wood screws that are countersunk into a plastic sash arm is provided by exaggerated counter sinking with undersized countersink bores.

  • Patent number: 5491930
Abstract: A hinge and track assembly for casement windows corrects for sash sag by changing the length of one arm in a multiple lever arm system controlling the opening of the window. The length adjustment may be accomplished with an expansion joint removed from the pivot points of the arm permitting the use of a more robust design for one pivot point which may be integrally formed with the track. The arm may be retained on the integral pivot point with a spring clip fitting within the pivot and providing inwardly flexing detents.

  • Patent number: 5152102
Abstract: A track and hinge assembly for swingably mounting a casement sash unit in a window frame includes a track secured to the window frame and a toggle hinge interconnecting the track and the casement window sash. The toggle hinge includes a long toggle link and short toggle link interconnected together and slidably and pivotally connected to the track. The short toggle link is pivotally connected to the track by an adjustable pivot connection, including an octagonally-shaped cam positioned within an octagonal cam opening in the short toggle link. The octagonal cam has an eccentric opening therein through which the track pivot post projects. The octagonal cam may be removed from the cam opening in the short toggle link, and repositioned in the opening to shift the pivotal connection longitudinally of the short toggle link from a centered position in either direction to thereby overcome problems of sash sag during or after installation of the casement window unit.

  • Patent number: 5109647
Abstract: A concealed grill clip is used to secure a conventional grill to a window or door frame. The grill includes a plurality of grill bars secured to each other in right angular relation, each bar having a recess in each end thereof. A plurality of grill clips secure each grill to a frame. Each clip includes a frame engaging leg and a coupling leg. The frame engaging leg of each clip is secured to the window frame. The coupling leg of one embodiment presents an outwardly convex outer surface which engages in an angular recess in a grill bar with spring coupling effect. In another embodiment the coupling leg includes a rolled portion which engages in a arcuate recess in the grill bar with spring coupling action.

  • Patent number: 4854100
Abstract: A plurality of concealed attachment clips are used for securing a grill to a window or door frame. The attachment clips are generally of L-shaped configuration, including a flat body portion having a pointed end, which is forcibly urged between the window or door frame and inner surface of the window or door pane. A coupling portion extends at substantially right angular relation from the body portion and includes a dome-shaped detente. The grill is comprised of grill bars, and each grill bar has a semi-spherical recess therein. The ends of the grill bars are forced over the detentes of the clips to releasably secure the grill to the window or door frame.

  • Patent number: 4790106
Abstract: An improved casement window sash unit includes a pair of track and hinge assemblies, each being secured to one of the upper and lower horizontal window frame members of a window opening in a building. Each track and hinge assembly includes a track having a toggle hinge pivotally and slidably secured thereto and to the sash. The track for each assembly has a pair of elongate longitudinally extending openings therein, each accommodating an attachment screw therethrough, each opening being of a size to permit slight longitudinal shifting of the track relative to the window frame. Each track and hinge assembly includes a cam positioned within a cam opening in the track and secured to the track and window frame by an attachment screw. Each cam is selectively shiftable in either direction from a centered position to slightly shift the track longitudinally of the window frame before the attachment screws are tightened to adjust the position of the hinge relative to the window frame and thereby overcome sash sag.

  • Patent number: RE34657
Abstract: A track and hinge assembly set for with a casement window sash unit comprises a pair of track and hinge assemblies each including a track which is mounted on a horizontal frame member of the window frame. Each assembly also includes a toggle hinge including a pair of pivotally interconnected links, one of which is secured to the casement sash and pivotally and slidably connected to the track. The other link is pivotally connected to a cam which is shiftably mounted on the track. In one embodiment, the cam is longitudinally shiftable relative to the track which repositions the pivotal connection between a toggle link and cam to overcome sash sag. In other embodiments, the cam rotated relative to the track to reposition the pivotal connection between the cam and a toggle link to correct sash sag.
