    Abstract: A box spring assembly which includes a generally rectangular frame and a plurality of wire springs mounted on the frame and connected to each other so as to yieldably resist downwardly directed bedding loads. Each of the springs has an elongated body portion arranged above the frame and downwardly extending end portions, each of the end portions having a lower column section consisting of a straight length of spring wire and an upper section consisting of a plurality of substantially horizontal torsion bars and a plurality of angularly arranged connecting bars connected to and extending between the torsion bars so that in response to a downwardly directed bedding load, the upper section will yieldably collapse to accommodate the load and impart a feeling of soft support to the bedding user. The straight wire column is inclined inwardly so that it can bend slightly and cause a twisting of the torsion bar on which it is mounted. This action imparts a feeling of firm support to the bedding user.

Each wire spring has a generally straight body portion and relatively short depending end portions, each of which is formed to a generally fish-mouth configuration. The end portions are secured to the frame and provide a substantial resistance to downwardly directed loads.

    Abstract: A spring assembly for use with a generally rectangular frame comprising a plurality of individual wire spring members interconnected to form a horizontal yieldable support deck, each spring member having a plurality of substantially square side-by-side U-shaped sections comprising a base portion and generally parallel leg portions which terminate in transversely extending leg extensions, one leg extension being integrally connected to a leg extension of the adjacent U-shaped section on one side thereof, and the other leg extension being connected to a leg extension of the adjacent U-shaped section on the other side thereof. The spring members are interconnected so that the junctures of the base portion and the leg portions of each U-shaped section of one spring member interconnects with an aligned U-shaped section of an adjacent spring member at the junctures of the leg portions and leg extensions thereof to thereby provide for pivotal movement of each spring member relative to the adjacent spring member.

    Abstract: A seat spring for a seating structure having front and rear frame rails wherein the spring is constructed from a one piece wire body shaped to form a front end fishmouth portion mounted on the front rail, a yieldable rear end portion mounted on the rear frame rail and a variable length main portion extending between the front and rear portions. The fishmouth portion and the front end of the main portion are configured so that when the spring is deflected in response to a downwardly directed seating load, the spring will bottom out on the front frame rail without any wire-to-wire engagement of portions of the spring during deflection. The result is a limited deflection spring which, under shock load, will deflect without any noise.
