  • Patent number: 9243783
Abstract: A light fixture includes a light source, a first flexible material coupled to a first scrolling mechanism, and a second flexible material coupled to a second scrolling mechanism. The first flexible material includes a plurality of areas with different diffusion characteristics. The second flexible material includes a plurality of areas with different color filtering characteristics, such that at least part of the light from the light source passes through a first area having a first color filtering characteristic, and at least another portion of light from the light source passes through a second area having a second color filtering characteristic different from the first color filtering characteristic. The first flexible material blending the portions of light passing through the first and second areas.

  • Publication number: 20140268795
Abstract: An apparatus for color correcting a light beam and a lighting fixture including such an apparatus are provided. The apparatus includes filter wheels with color correction filter regions and clear substrate regions. Some of the filter wheels can be rotated into corresponding first positions that produce a predetermined minimal amount of color correction, and can be rotated into corresponding second positions that produce a predetermined maximal amount of color correction.

  • Patent number: 8721123
Abstract: An apparatus includes a first flexible material that has a first area with a first texture that produces a first predetermined amount of diffusion of a beam of light, where the first texture produces at least some diffusion in the beam of light. The apparatus also includes a second flexible material attached to a first portion of the first area, where the second flexible material reduces the amount of diffusion of the beam of light produced by the first texture of the first portion of the first area. A light fixture includes a light fixture and the first flexible material coupled to a scrolling mechanism. The scrolling mechanism is operable to position a selected area of the first flexible material such that a beam of light from the light source passes through a first area of the first flexible material.

  • Patent number: 7703947
Abstract: A light fixture includes a flexible color filter material coupled to a scrolling mechanism that moves the material in a first direction to position a selected portion of the color filter material in a part of a light beam from the fixture. A device coupled to the mechanism may move the mechanism in a second direction so that another part of the light beam passes unfiltered. Different areas of the color filter material produce different colors. The device may move the mechanism in a direction parallel to a plane of the color filter material. The device may rotate the scrolling mechanism about an axis of rotation substantially parallel to the plane of the color filter material. The color filter material may include a dichroic filter. The light fixture may also include a second scrolling mechanism coupled to flexible diffusion material, such that at least a part of the light beam of the light fixture may be diffused by a predetermined amount.

  • Publication number: 20090196044
Abstract: A light fixture includes first and second flexible materials coupled to first and second scrolling mechanisms that move the material in first and second directions to position a selected portion of the first and second flexible materials in first and second parts of a light beam from the fixture. A device coupled to the first and second mechanisms may move the first and second mechanisms in third and fourth directions so that third and fourth parts of the light beam do not pass through the first and second flexible materials. The third and fourth directions are different than the first and second directions. Different areas of the first and second flexible materials may produce different colors. The light fixture may also include a third scrolling mechanism coupled to a flexible diffusion material, to diffuse at least a part of the light beam by a predetermined amount.

  • Publication number: 20090195900
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed that include overlapping a first portion of a first piece of flexible filter material and a second portion of a second piece of flexible filter material. In these systems and methods, the first and second pieces of flexible filter material produce a desired change in a characteristic of a light beam. These systems and methods can include clamping the first portion and the second portion between a first element and a second element. In addition, these systems and methods can include producing ultrasonic vibrations in the first element that promotes a bond between the first and second piece of flexible filter material.

  • Publication number: 20060268558
Abstract: A light fixture including a flexible diffusion material coupled to a scrolling mechanism that is capable of positioning a selected portion of the diffusion material in a light beam from a light source. Different portions of the diffusion material provide differing amounts of diffusion of the light beam. The scrolling mechanism may be remotely operated to produce a desired amount of diffusion in the light beam from the light fixture. The light fixture may also include one or more additional scrolling mechanisms coupled to flexible color filter material, such that at least a part of the light beam of the light fixture may be filtered to a desired color. The additional scrolling mechanisms may be remotely operated to produce color filtration of a predetermined color or saturation. A non-scrolling holographic diffusion material may be removably mounted to a light fixture having a scrolling mechanisms coupled to flexible color filter material.
