  • Patent number: 5643424
Abstract: A device and method for preventing fouling and/or corrosion of the exposed surfaces of a structure which is in contact with seawater, brackish water, fresh water, or a combination of these. The system includes using a structure having an exposed zinc-containing surface. At the exposed surface water interface a negative capacitive charge or an asymmetric alternating electrostatic is induced and maintained.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 29, 1994
Date of Patent: July 1, 1997
    Assignee: Marine Environmental Research, Inc.
Inventors: William J. Riffe, Jack D. Carter

  • Patent number: 5055165
Abstract: A device and method for preventing fouling and/or corrosion of the exposed surfaces of a structure which is at in contact with seawater, brackish water; or fresh water. The system includes a conductive zinc-containing coating applied to the exposed surfaces of the structures which are susceptible to fouling and/or corrosion. At the coating and water interface a negative capacitive charge or an asymmetric alternating electrostatic is induced and maintained.

  • Patent number: 5009757
Abstract: A device for preventing fouling organisms in seawater from attaching to the exposed surfaces of a marine vessel, buoy, oil rig platform, or other seawater structure. The antifouling device includes a zinc coating applied to the exposed surfaces of the seawater structure which are susceptible to fouling. When a small negative charge is impressed upon the seawater structure, a Helmholtz double layer forms at the interface between the zinc coating and the seawater which is precludes fouling. The slight negative charge impressed upon the zinc coating also prevents dissolution of the zinc into the seawater which would otherwise be expected.

  • Patent number: 4405282
Abstract: A conventional earth moving bucket is provided with hooks and an elongated support member extending across the top edge of the bucket on which a load bearing surface of an attachment may rest so that the weight of the attachment and any associated load carried by the attachment is borne primarily by the elongated member while the hooks function to align the attachment with the elongated member and to prevent accidental release of the attachment. In a preferred form, the load bearing surfaces of the attachment comprise relatively short horizontally extending portions of fork lift elements near the upper extremities of those fork lift elements.

  • Patent number: 4247243
Abstract: A conventional earth moving bucket is provided with hooks including elongated notches with openings intermediate the ends thereof with those hooks being positioned along a bucket upper edge to receive a fork lift attachment. The attachment has a horizontal support which fits in the hook notches and L shaped fork lift elements are pivotably mounted at their top on the horizontal support with the lower part of the fork lift elements resting against the lower part of the bucket. A latch member is mounted on a fork lift element for coupling that element to the bucket to prevent relative pivotal movement of the fork lift element about the horizontal support relative to the bucket only when the bucket is in certain specified attitudes. The latch member may comprise one or more tines in cooperation with the bucket lower edge or may comprise a locking strip fastened to the bucket in conjunction with a generally L shaped hook fastened to the fork lift elements.
