Abstract: A system, method and computer readable medium for distributed intelligent rich presence comprising filtering presence information of at least one presence source at the at least one presence source, distributing the filtered presence information to at least one presence watcher, and aggregating the filtered presence information at the at least one presence watcher.

Abstract: A presence system is used to monitor the presence state of an electronic message originated by a sender and addressed to a recipient. The presence system includes a presence user agent and a presence server. The presence user agent is coupled to a communication network to receive the electronic message, register the electronic message with the presence server as a message presentity, determine presence information for the message presentity and provide the presence information to the presence server. The presence information defines a presence state of the message, in which the presence state identifies a processing state of the electronic message by the recipient. The presence server is also coupled to the communication network to provide the presence information in real-time to watchers of the message presentity.

Abstract: A method is described herein which enables a person to use their mobile phone to establish a voice connection with a central server, then send call control information in-band in the voice channel (via a voice user interface (VUI), digital tone multi-frequency (DTMF) or Multi-Frequency (MF) signaling) to setup a call between a convenient phone (e.g., land-line phone or mobile phone which has a better tariff structure) and one or more destination phone(s). Once the call is setup, the mobile phone can be hung-up to save on mobile connection costs and then a person can use the convenient phone to talk to a person using the destination phone.

Abstract: A presence system is provided with a communications device associated with a presentity that is capable of displaying a respective presentity presence state indicating a respective availability of the presentity as provided by a presence system to each contact on a contact list of the presentity. The communications device includes a presence user client communicatively coupled to the presence system to receive presence information associated with the presentity, in which the presence information includes the respective presentity presence states for the contacts on the contact list, and a display for displaying the contact list and a respective representation of the respective presentity presence state for each contact on the contact list.

This is desirable because if the user presses button(s) on their phone then the voice communication controller which has enabled the outbound DTMF feature will not attempt to process the corresponding DTMF digit(s) but instead will automatically transfer the corresponding DTMF signal(s) to the external DTMF communication system.

Abstract: An enhanced whisper feature enables a user to engage simultaneously in disparate telephonic communication sessions by isolating audible input of the user from a select one of the telephonic communication sessions while providing audible output from each of the telephonic communication sessions to the user. The whisper feature can be further enhanced using a presence system that maintains presence information indicating the availability of the user. The presence system can enable the whisper feature of the user upon determining that the user is currently engaged in a first telephonic communication session when a request for the user to engage in a second telephonic communication session is received. In addition, the whisper feature can include a silent ring mode that is activated upon receipt of the request for the user to engage in the second telephonic communication session.

Abstract: System and method for representing preference and policy in a contact list are described. One embodiment is a graphical user interface (“GUI”) for displaying a directory of contacts of a user. The GUI comprises a list of contacts displayed in a first window of the GUI; for each contact in the list of contacts, a preference and policy category for the contact, wherein the preference and policy category for the contact is displayed in the first window of the GUI; and for each contact in the list of contacts, a feature icon indicative of whether a feature is enabled for the contact according to the preference and policy category for the contact, wherein the feature icon is displayed in association with the contact in the first window of the GUI.
