Publication number: 20020049508Abstract: A virtual scorecard is presented that allows at least two players or any number of teams of players to compete in a golf match on different days and from different golf courses. A first player challenges at least a second player with a competitive format and time limit within which play must be concluded and scores submitted. Each player plays a round of golf and enters their score, including handicap, on an on-line system. The system creates a virtual scorecard using the net scores based on handicaps and slope ratings. The same handicap holes from each player's scorecard are paired up as the same hole on the virtual scorecard. Based on the competitive format selected (match play, stroke play, or stableford play), scores are tallied and a winner is determined. Various tools are also provided for tracking performance of golfers, gathering golf-related information and instruction and communicating with other golfers.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 11, 2001Publication date: April 25, 2002Inventor: Jack L. Patent number: 5425624Abstract: An optical bilge pump apparatus has two optical fibers with gaps cut therein and associated light transmitters-receivers. The apparatus is responsive to high and low liquid levels in the pump such that the pump is turned on when both gaps in the optical fibers are submersed in liquid, and the pump is turned off when both gaps in the optical fibers are not submersed in liquid.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1993Date of Patent: June 20, 1995Assignee: ITT CorporationInventor: Jack L. Patent number: 5346317Abstract: A cage with bearing balls' confined therein is interposed between a plate and a planar platform, to accommodate rotation of the plate, and an electrically-powered device, such as a searchlight, can be fastened to the plate for rotation therewith. A disk, with a plurality of radially-extending fingers, is secured to the platform and is in biasingly restraint of the plate to (a) inhibit an unwarrantedly free rotation of the plate, i.e, to impose a controlled drag on the plate rotation, and (b) to enable the inverted operation of the overall combination.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1993Date of Patent: September 13, 1994Assignee: ITT CorporationInventor: Jack L. Williams

Patent number: 5062643Abstract: A portable golfing aid conditions the golfer to swing on a constant arc by limiting and restraining the pivot foot from lifting or pivoting. Base members which are spaced a shoe width apart are removably secured with respect to the ground or mounted on a pad or mat. Slotted portions of the base members receive a removable adjustable strap which connects the base members and bridges the front instep portion of the golfer's shoe and may be angled snugly across the instep. The golfing aid may be equipped with foldable ground engaging legs and when folded collapses to fit in a pocket in a golf bag. A less portable mat-mounted device is provided with pivoting adjustability for an angulated foot position.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1991Date of Patent: November 5, 1991Inventors: Carter S. Bibbey, Jack L. Williams

Patent number: 5000721Abstract: Clutch apparatus with a rotary inner member having a plurality of equally spaced indents. An outer member has a plurality of equally spaced flexible beam members on its inner peripheral surface, each of said members being adapted to engage one of said plurality of indents. When either the inner or outer member is subject to an overload condition, said beam members flex radially outward and slip from one indent to another.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1990Date of Patent: March 19, 1991Assignee: ITT CorporationInventor: Jack L. Williams

Patent number: 4930057Abstract: Apparatus is described for a searchlight in which a lamp is mounted in a housing for both vertical and horizontal movement. Vertical drive means which is mounted in the housing includes a gear having a tooth portion and a ramp portion to permit up and down movement of said lamp. The housing has an integrally formed ring gear with a tooth portion less than 360 degrees and a ramp portion. A horizontal drive means engages the ring gear and drives the lamp in a horizontal plane less than 360 degrees.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1989Date of Patent: May 29, 1990Assignee: ITT CorporationInventor: Jack L.
