  • Patent number: 7913854
Abstract: A filter apparatus includes a endless filter belt loop disposed in an interior space within a tank which receives liquid to be filtered. The filter belt has a series of closely spaced parallel guide-flight bars attached which are successively engaged by an extendible element on a pivot plate which is periodically oscillated to under the filter belt. The bars are received in guide spaces to hold the filter belt in position over a filter support having openings allowing filtering flow therethrough. Collapsible sealed hoses partially filled with liquid are used as edge seals extending along the guide spaces over side edges of the filter belt and are expanded by engagement of an upper end of each of the hoses with a squeeze member on the pivot plate. The squeeze members are moved off the hoses when the pivot plate is oscillated to advance the filter belt during indexing to release the sealing pressure and allow filter belt indexing movement.

  • Patent number: 7357872
Abstract: A lift station for raising the level of an open channel flow of liquid by sweeping blades mounted to a rotated wheel into the liquid flow after entering a housing to sweep the liquid up and back along a housing interior wall and over a weir edge located well above the level of the open channel flow stream. The flow stream is caused to descend as it enters the housing through a drop to increase the flow velocity to a degree sufficient to offset the impeding effect on upstream flow of the encounter of the flow with the rotating blades. Roller bearings are mounted to the inside of the housing to side walls to support the bladed wheel and are packed with a solid lubricant to insure a long service life despite being exposed to the liquid and debris entrained therein. A reverse rotation device positively prevents a backwards rotation of the wheel to prevent damage to the blades. The wheel is driven by a motor mounted in a housing tray affixed to one side wall driving a drive shaft penetrating the side wall.

  • Patent number: 7338606
Abstract: An arrangement and method for maintaining a minimum flow velocity in return piping receiving dirty coolant from a plurality of machine tools receiving filtered coolant from a filter apparatus. A bypass line diverts clean coolant into the return piping via a pressure reducing valve set to allow make up flow of clean coolant into the return piping just sufficient to maintain a pressure corresponding to the minimum flow velocity in the return piping. A pressure maintaining valve is interposed upstream of the pressure reducing valve and set to restrict flow as necessary to maintain adequate pressure to insure that the machine tools are adequately supplied with clean coolant at start up prior to the beginning of contaminated flow in the return piping.

  • Patent number: 7077954
Abstract: An apparatus and method for recirculating machine tool coolant in which coolant and entrained debris flowing in a shallow stream trough are raised to a higher level by rotation of a bladed wheel in a housing arranged to receive the liquid flow stream. Coolant and debris is then directed down at a magnetized body in a plunging discharge to bring ferrous debris into contact with an upwardly facing surface of the magnetized body. The coolant and nonferrous remaining entrained debris is collected in a tank and pumped back to the filter apparatus by a chopper pump which has a hardened impeller having cutting edges cutting up the remaining debris as it is pumped by the impeller.

  • Patent number: 6846421
Abstract: A liquid filter method includes use of a filter media belt enclosed by sealably mated cover pan and floor pan defining a vacuum chamber connected to a sealed clean liquid tank, with clean liquid pumped out continuously to draw liquid to be filtered into an upper region of the filter chamber via an inlet hose connected to a source of liquid to be filtered. The cover pan is lifted after the vacuum is relieved to allow indexing of the filter media belt. A main control valve to the clean liquid tank is closed and pumping liquid continues during indexing. A vacuum control device limits the maximum vacuum developed in the clean liquid tank and a vacuum pump removes air from the tank for priming and to eliminate excess accumulated air. A hose seal for the cover is mounted to the filter belt to be moved in and out by the belt movement, allowing cleaning of the seal. A double loop hose seal creates an intervening space into which liquid is directed to minimize air leaks.

  • Patent number: 6705555
Abstract: A lift station and method for lifting liquid and chips flowing in a shallow stream trough to a higher level for further handling by rotation of a bladed wheel in a housing arranged to receive the liquid flow stream. The rotating blades cause the liquid to be swept up a forward housing wall and to be slung off the blades into an upwardly and backwardly extending exit chute, having sufficient momentum to reach and pass over a weir edge at the upper end of the chute, the liquid then directed into a collection tank where it may accumulate to a much greater depth than the depth of the flow stream.

  • Patent number: 6638430
Abstract: A magnetic separator and process involving a train of parallel, spaced magnetic bars connected together to form a closed loop disposed in a tank able to receive a liquid containing ferromagnetic particles which are to be removed from the liquid. The liquid is introduced by an inlet extending within the closed loop so that the liquid is constrained to flow out through spaces between the magnetic bars. Flow out of the tank is through perforate distributor plates and over a pair of weirs, the perforate plates and weirs extending along a respective side of the closed loop to distribute the flow through all of the bar spaces.

  • Patent number: 6612445
Abstract: An arrangement for removing chips from a machining coolant prior to filtering out the finer solids in a main filter. A coarse weave belt is frictionally driven along a strainer bottom wall of an auxiliary tank suspended above the main filter tank, the permanent media belt of a coarse weave which allows the liquid and suspended finer solids to pass through while capturing the chips. A powered drag conveyor frictionally engages and drives the permanent media belt through the auxiliary tank, each diverging when returning across the top and bottom respectively of the auxiliary tank prior to being recirculated through the auxiliary tank.

  • Patent number: 6612314
Abstract: A process for removing oil containing machine coolant from machining chips in which the chips are deposited in a sluice and flushing jets of citrus oil based cleanser used as a washing liquid are used to move the chips down the sluice and into a chip separator tank, the coating of oil containing coolant scoured from the chips by the action of the cleanser and flushing jets. The chips are conveyed up a sloping wall of the tank to be moved out of the washing liquid, drained and dried. The washing liquid is pumped out the tank and after removal of the oil is again used to form the flushing jets in the sluice.

  • Patent number: 6508944
Abstract: A vacuum assist system and process for handling cutting fluid and chips collected from a series of machine tools includes a closed header pipe extending below a series of sumps associated with the machine tools, the sumps draining into the header pipe. The header pipe has a down leg extending vertically down to a filter tank which is opened periodically to drain the header pipe, developing a vacuum which assists the flow of liquid down the header pipe so as to insure a sufficient flow velocity in the header pipe to carry the collected chips out of the header pipe and into the filter tank with the cutting fluid.
