  • Publication number: 20050284272
Abstract: An apparatus and method for cutting a material using a water jet. A central shaft is mounted so as to extend outward from a material to be cut. A support member is mounted on the central shaft so as to extend transversely therefrom. At least one water jet cutting head is mounted on the support member so as to be translatable therealong. In addition, the at least one water jet cutting head is mounted so as to be rotatable about the central shaft. By controlling the translatory and rotational motion of the at least one water jet cutting head (for example, using computer numerical control or other computer control), a desired cut pattern can be followed with respect to the material being cut.

  • Publication number: 20050288930
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for speech recognition that receives speech input and converts the speech input to data. A database is accessed to determine stored data corresponding to the speech input data. The stored data is associated with desired output data. The output data is output to a user as speech output. The speech output data may be in the same voice as the user to enhance comprehension and clarity. The present invention may be used in sorting mail in which a street address or post office box number is spoken into the system and the system provides desired information in the form of speech. The desired information may include carrier route number, mail-forwarding information, mail hold information or fee payment information but is not so limited. The present invention may also be used to provide excerpts of written material to a user on command, such as a desired chapter/verse of the Bible.

  • Patent number: 4167846
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of manufacture of a rotor for the open end spinning of staple fibres into yarn which is formed of a steel and has hardened surfaces at its fiber contacting and collecting surfaces, wherein the rotor may be fashioned by machining from a block of steel or formed from sheet steel, then hardening its internal fiber contacting surfaces by induction heating or carburizing or nitriding or carbonitriding at least in the region of the rotor's maximum diameter, then quenching and thereafter stress-relieving the entire rotor. Such method provides a rotor with exceptional properties of wear resistance in the area most prone to abrasive wear which latter otherwise reduces the rotor's useful service life and substantially increases yarn processing costs.

  • Patent number: 4122656
Abstract: An opening roller for opening fibres fed to an open-end spinning machine has a cylindrical shell outwardly from which protrude a plurality of fibre-engaging teeth, each of which has a coating of wear-resistant ceramics or metallic material applied thereto. The teeth are formed as pointed ends of a plurality of pins passing through the cylindrical shell and the coating applied so as to cover the whole surface of each of the pins. The opening roller is provided with a flange extending from each end of the cylindrical shell and the wear-resistant coating may be applied to each of the protruding tooth portions, the outer surface of the cylindrical shell and the inner surface of the flanges.

  • Patent number: 4058965
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to an open-end spinning machine for the open-end spinning of textile fibres, in which there are provided a spinning element, a fibre opening roller, means for feeding fibres in the form of a sliver to said opening roller, and fibre conveying means for conveying in discrete form to said spinning element fibres opened by said opening roller. The opening roller comprises a boss portion, an end wall portion extending radially outwardly from said boss portion at one end thereof, and a cylindrical shell portion extending from said wall portion over and in coaxial relation to said boss portion to form an annular cavity between the outer surface of said boss portion, the inner surface of said wall portion and the inner surface of said shell portion.

  • Patent number: 3952959
Abstract: A textile yarn processing machine for winding yarn onto a bobbin tube provided with first and second slots angularly spaced around the periphery and extending from one end of the tube, wherein a running yarn, held by a yarn collection means, is engaged in the first and second slots and the tube is placed in the winding position to initiate winding of the yarn onto the tube. A yarn guide is positioned adjacent the end of the tube having the slots therein for guiding yarn withdrawn from the collection means onto the tube as the tube is rotated in the winding direction so as to form a reserve winding.
