    Abstract: An apparatus and method for bidirectional communication using sound waves is disclosed. The invention uses a multi-carrier modulation scheme to transmit and receive digital data on acoustic waves. In one embodiment, acoustic waves having frequencies in the range between approximately 1 kHz to 3 kHz are used such that digital data can be transmitted by a standard speaker and microphone.
