The proportions of the ingredients are chosen to provide good nutrients to plants, good water retention and good water drainage properties, and generally comprise at least 20 percent by volume of each ingredient, and typically comprises about 25 percent by volume of alumina clay, up to 30 percent by volume of compost and about 45 percent by volume of sand.
