  • Patent number: 5292005
Abstract: An apparatus for roasting coffee beans or the like includes a controlled spinning bed or fluid bed roaster in combination with a cyclone separator for removing chaff from the heating medium. The cyclone separator is disposed above and in coaxial and abutting relationship with the roaster. The separator has a generally cylindrical shape with a plate having a plurality of louvers in the base thereof. The louvers impart rotational movement as the heating medium passes therethrough so that the chaff can be removed therefrom. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a second centrifugal separator which is relatively small with respect to the first separator is disposed adjacent the first separator for making a final separation and returning the heated medium to the roaster.

  • Patent number: 5159764
Abstract: A controlled spinning bed of particulate material such as coffee beans or the like is formed and maintained in a stationay chamber, the particulate material is mixed and uniformly conditioned. For example, coffee beans are uniformly roasted within a relatively short time and cooled in a similar but separate chamber with or without an intermediate quench. A movable bean spill which is movable upwardly or downwardly into engagement with the spinning bed is provided for directing a portion of the beans out of the bed inwardly and downwardly to increase the mixing of the beans. The movable beam spill includes a compound surface defined by a two-dimensional surface.

  • Patent number: 4155789
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus and method for producing an elastomeric extrudate having a constant cross section area. The extrudate is shaped in to a ribbon through a roller die and applied to a tire surface mounted on a rotating spindle. Digital electronic circuitry is employed to provide precise shaft synchronization at a pre-selected rotational velocity ratio between the rotating shafts. The synchronization assures repeatable velocity synchronization between the source of elastomeric material and a take-up device at the axis of rotation of the two components. The elastomeric material is extruded in a manner permitting control over the wrap operation and the amount of elastomeric material employed for a given cycle.

  • Patent number: 3975126
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the amount of extruded material being formed from rubber stock into a continuous ribbon for deposition upon a tire body during the retreading operation. The mass flow rate of the extruded product is controlled by a sensing apparatus which is connected to a motor governing the advance of such rubber stock through a pair of specially shaped rollers at the discharge end of the extruding apparatus. The ability to control the through-put of material provides the tire surface with layers of material exhibiting favorable characteristics.
