Abstract: A system and method for facilitating a transaction comprises a payment gateway arranged to receive a group payment request arranged to identify a plurality of users each contributing a payment portion to a total balance of the transaction, a generating module arranged to generate a part payment request for each plurality of users with the payment portion, a payment interface arranged to transmit the part payment request to each plurality of users, a settlement interface arranged to receive part payment instructions from each plurality of users to settle each part payment request, a settlement module arranged to settle the part payment instructions to determine a combined settled amount, and, a processor arranged to determining an outstanding balance by comparing the combined settled amount with the total balance; whereupon an outstanding balance is determined, selecting a user from the plurality of users and settling the outstanding balance with the selected user.
