  • Patent number: 8888413
Abstract: An improved transition coupling for a helical soil pile assembly transfers a compression load between two coupled shaft segments with little or no compression loading on the bolts that fasten the parts together. The coupling body has a shaft-receiving socket that extends axially into the body from one end to a socket bottom that axially abuts the end of one of the shafts. The body also has at least one shoulder between its ends that extends laterally outward and faces toward the end remote from the socket. A cylindrical portion of the body, which fits closely within the hollow end of the other shaft, extends axially toward the socket end up to the shoulder, which is adapted to abut the end of that shaft. At least one pair of aligned transverse holes in the body is adapted to receive a fastener.

  • Patent number: 8839571
Abstract: A ground anchor is provided for driving into the ground for anchoring or supporting a structure. The ground anchor includes a hub with a helical load bearing screw and a pointed ground engaging end. The ground engaging end has a blade extending axially from the hub with first and second opposing major faces and first and second transverse faces that converge at the axial end to a flat axial face. The blade has one or more diagonal frangible portions to define a diagonal break line. The breakable portion of the ground anchor penetrates the ground and breaks away from the blade when a predetermined torque or stress is applied to the blade. The breakable portion breaks away to form a ground engaging end having a dimension and surface area that is larger than the original ground engaging end.

  • Patent number: 8704089
Abstract: A foundation base member is provided for supporting an above ground electrical device such as a light pole and for supplying electrical wiring to the electrical device. The foundation base includes a body for inserting into the ground and has an axial passage for carrying the underground electrical wires to the electrical device. A base member is coupled to the top end of the foundation body and has a passageway aligned with the axial passage of the foundation body for receiving the electrical wires. The base member is adapted for coupling to and supporting the electrical device. A clamping device is received within a recess of the base member for fixing the position of the clamping device with respect to the foundation base. In one embodiment, the clamping device is captured between the foundation base and the electrical device. The wires are clamped in position by the clamping device to prevent unauthorized removal of the wiring.

  • Patent number: 8662794
Abstract: An adapter for connecting a helical pile to a drive assembly includes a pin block connectable to the helical pile. A tool body has a first protrusion to receive the pin block to facilitate aligning the helical pile with the tool body. A locking member is movably connected to the tool body. The locking member is movable between an insertion position to allow insertion of the pin block and a locking position to lock the pin block in the tool body.

  • Patent number: 8641328
Abstract: A drive tool for connecting a member to the drive tool of a drive tool assembly includes a flange connectable to the drive tool assembly. A wall has a first portion extending axially outwardly from the flange and defining a socket for receiving a first member. The wall has a second portion extending axially from the first portion of the wall and having a circumferential extent less than that of the first portion to facilitate receiving the first member by providing a laterally and axially open alignment opening. The first member can have a second portion extending axially further than a first portion and having a circumferential extent less than the first portion to facilitate connecting a second member to the first member by providing a laterally and axially open alignment opening.

  • Patent number: 8631627
Abstract: A method of installing a support structure is provided for use in soft or unstable soil. The method forms a hole in the earth to a depth sufficient to support the structure, such as a utility pole or post. A pole support is placed in the hole and driven downward into the earth to form a supporting base at the bottom of the hole. The pole support in one embodiment has a helical screw at a bottom end and a flat supporting plate at the top end. The pole support is rotated by a drive member into the earth to position the support plate at the bottom of the hole. The support plate can have a hole in the top face to receive the drive member for rotating the support member to drive the screw into the earth. The drive member is then separated and lifted from the hole. The pole or post is positioned on the support plate and the hole is back-filled.
