  • Publication number: 20220416545
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for optimizing energy management of an energy resource site. For instance, a hierarchical energy management system can provide optimized management of energy resource sites with large numbers of energy resources. In particular, the hierarchical energy management system can effectively control energy resources by allocating functionality using different tiers. For instance, one or more energy resources devices can comprise the lowest tier of the hierarchical energy management system. The next tier of the hierarchical energy management system can comprise one or more controllers that can manage the energy resource devices. The next tier of the hierarchical energy management system, a resource manager, generally manages the set of controllers.

  • Patent number: 11451061
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed for restoring operation of a power grid comprising a plurality of reclosers and distributed energy resources (DERs) responsive to abnormal conditions by determining and implementing a reconfiguration for the power grid. The reconfiguration can specify respective new statuses for one or more of the reclosers and/or respective quantities of reactive power to be supplied by one or more of the DERs. The reconfiguration can be determined based on a plurality of constraints using an objective function, the constraints being determined based at least in part on recloser status data and/or DER power generation capability data. Respective cleared quantities of reactive power for the DERs to supply to the reconfigured power grid can be determined via a transactive control scheme, and the reconfiguration can be updated prior to implementation based on the results of the transactive control scheme.

  • Publication number: 20210297810
Abstract: A method for authorizing a data communication between an electronically controlled pump assembly (1) and an operating device (12), configured for wireless communication with the pump assembly (1), operating using an external server (10) connected to a data network. The method includes transferring the installation location data (GPS 1) of the pump assembly (1) to the server (10) via the data network. An identification code of the operating device (12) and the location data (GPS 2+3) of the operating device (12) are then transferred to the server via the data network. On the server side, it is examined whether the operating device (12) is envisaged for data communication with the pump assembly (1), and whether the operating device (12) is located in a predefined spatial region (A) to the pump assembly (1). Subsequently a data communication is enabled or blocked, for a time.

  • Patent number: 10784686
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed for control systems for improving stability of electrical grids by temporarily reducing voltage output of electrical generators responsive to transient events on an electrical grid. In one example of the disclosed technology, a controller is coupled is to an automatic voltage regulator, which in turn adjusts excitation current of an electrical generator responsive to changes in frequency detected for the electrical grid. Reducing the output voltage temporarily allows for smaller generators to provide power to the microgrid. Methods for selecting parameters determining how the controller generates a regulation signal used to adjust the excitation current are further disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10651652
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer media for managing frequency response in a power grid are provided herein. Individual grid-connected electrical devices can be turned on and/or off by corresponding frequency-responsive load controllers when frequency deviations beyond a threshold are detected. Each controller selects, for the corresponding electrical device, a frequency threshold from available frequencies in a frequency range. If the selected frequency falls within a deadband frequency range, then the controller sets the frequency threshold to a frequency outside of the deadband (e.g., to a closest available frequency outside of the deadband). On a system-wide level, this approximates a uniform distribution of frequency thresholds over the entire frequency range, including the deadband, and achieves the proper power-to-frequency relationship for grid stability.
