Abstract: A method and apparatus for cooling and coating the inside seam of a hot welded can body. In the preferred embodiment, the apparatus includes a spray gun having a two-orifice nozzle assembly. Operation of the gun causes coating material to be sprayed concurrently from both orifices onto a seam of a can body passing by the nozzle. The first orifice emits a partially atomized spray of coating material on the seam to cool the seam and the second orifice emits an unatomized flow coat of material over the seam. The first spray acts to cool the seam making it more receptive for the coating material applied from the second orifice.

Abstract: A liquid dispensing device is disclosed in which there is a movable needle valve operable to open and close a valve seat located within the nozzle of the dispensing device. The needle valve is guided by a guide bushing contained within the nozzle bore. A very small radiused semi-spherical end surface on the nozzle has been found to eliminate stringing of viscous liquid materials dispensed from the nozzle, particularly when the end surface is combined with a needle valve which is maintained concentric with the nozzle orifice by the guide bushing contained within the nozzle bore.

Abstract: A method for striping the inside seams of cans comprising airlessly spraying a stripe of liquid coating material onto the inside seam of a welded seam can wherein a spray pattern of liquid material is emitted from the airless spray apparatus and impacted against the seam of the can before the spray has an opportunity to break apart and atomize.

Abstract: A method for emplacing a seal on a closure for a container which comprises despositing a foamed adhesive in liquid form on an interior surface of the closure and allowing that foamed adhesive to solidify and adhere as a solid cellular foam to the interior surface of the closure.
