  • Patent number: 10381889
Abstract: A permanent magnet machine and a rotor assembly for the permanent magnet machine. The permanent magnet machine includes a stator assembly including a stator core configured to generate a magnetic field and extending along a longitudinal axis with an inner surface defining a cavity and a rotor assembly including a rotor core and a rotor shaft. The rotor core is disposed inside the stator cavity and configured to rotate about the longitudinal axis. The rotor assembly further including a plurality of permanent magnets for generating a magnetic field which interacts with the stator magnetic field to produce torque. The permanent magnets are disposed within one or more cavities formed in a sleeve component. The sleeve component configured to include a plurality of cavities or voids therein and thus provide minimal weight to the permanent magnet machine. The permanent magnet machine providing increased centrifugal load capacity, increased power density and improved electrical performance.

  • Patent number: 10336335
Abstract: A vehicle includes a transmission mechanical park system, an electronic park brake, and at least one controller. The at least one controller is programmed to in response to (i) a speed difference of a measured speed and an expected speed of a downstream component of the vehicle that transmits torque downstream of the transmission mechanical park system exceeding a calibratable threshold and (ii) an ignition state of OFF, apply the electronic park brake to restrain movement of the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20190135289
Abstract: A vehicle includes an anti-lock braking system (ABS), a stability control system (SCS), and an electronic locking differential. A controller of the vehicle is programmed to unlock the differential in response to activation of the ABS or the SCS. The controller is further programmed to, responsive to the deactivation of the activated one of the ABS and the SCS, inhibit locking of the differential for a predefined period of time.

  • Patent number: 10221903
Abstract: One vehicle wheel is disconnected from a differential while the vehicle is in a front wheel drive mode. A controller checks for a malfunction of the differential while the vehicle is in the front wheel drive mode and in response to a request to enter an all wheel drive mode. If speeds of the other vehicle wheel and the differential input indicate that the malfunction is present, the all wheel drive mode is disabled and the driver is informed. If fluid temperature indicates a risk of the malfunction, all wheel drive mode is temporarily disabled and the driver is informed. If the temperature condition continues to be present for a predetermined duration, the all wheel drive mode is disabled.

  • Patent number: 9382992
Abstract: A locking differential includes a dog clutch configured to selectively couple a carrier to an axle shaft in response to magnetic forces generated by electrical current in a coil. A method of operating the differential is adapted to avoid failed engagement attempts that could potentially damage the dog clutch. If a driver commands engagement of the locking feature while a differential speed, a controller waits to command engagement of the dog clutch until the differential speed decreases below a threshold. The controller measures or infers a temperature of the differential fluid and adjusts the threshold to higher values when the temperature is cold.
