  • Publication number: 20120113883
Abstract: The invention relates to Coordinated MultiPoint (COMP) operation in a cellular communication network. A supporting radio base station (RBS) (100) is configured to provide complementary IQ samples and transmit, via a network interface to a transport network, these IQ samples to a multicast group that includes a serving RBS (200) to enable the serving RBS to decode user data based on both complementary IQ samples and own IQ samples. The serving RBS (200) is thus configured to provide own IQ samples, and join the multicast group for receiving, via a network interface to a transport network, complementary IQ samples from the supporting RBS (100).

  • Publication number: 20120114050
Abstract: A supporting radio base station (100) comprises an IQ sample provider (110) for extracting, in a selected subset of the available frequency band (A) and/or from a selected subset of the available antennas (B), so-called complementary IQ samples based on received radio signals including a radio signal originating from an uplink transmission of at least one UE served by a serving radio base station (200). The supporting radio base station (100) comprises an IQ sample transmitter (120) for transmitting the complementary IQ samples to the serving radio base station (200) to enable the serving radio base station to decode user data of the uplink transmission based on the complementary IQ samples together with own IQ samples provided by the serving radio base station (200). This will provide significant savings of bit rate for the exchange of IQ samples between the radio base stations.

  • Publication number: 20120063377
Abstract: A data communication scheduling system (300) of a radio base station (100) serving multiple cells (10-30) comprises multiple radio equipment, REs, (101-103) and antenna interfaces (115, 125, 135) connectable to antennas (110, 120, 130). In order to reduce the power consumption, only a subset of the RE (101) is active, while the other REs (102, 103) are turned off. A transmitter controller (155) is arranged for controlling the active RE (101) to be shared among multiple cells (10-30) during a radio frame (40) so that each cell (10-30) is guaranteed at least one sub frame (50-58) for downlink transmission. A receiver antenna system multiplexer(140) selectively interconnects the active RE (101) with the antenna interfaces (115, 125, 135) according to the operation of a receiver controller (145).

  • Publication number: 20120063294
Abstract: In cellular radio systems it is a problem to provide service to UE (user equipment) on the cell border. In systems that apply a frequency re-use of one, and OFDM access technology, the uplink direction need be improved. One embodiment of this application relates to a radio base station that is equipped with one or more FFT processor/s in addition to the FFT-processor that is adapted for being adjusted to the timed aligned arrival of signals from UE served by the radio base station. The additional FFT processor/s is adapted for being adjusted to the arrival of one or more signals from UE that are served by other radio base station/s. The radio base station is further adapted to send Fourier processed signal information relating to the UE of the other radio base station/s and thereby assist the other radio base station in signal reception.

  • Patent number: 8126070
Abstract: A method and base station for forming an OFDM signal from a baseband signal includes a partitioning unit configured to partition a block of baseband signal samples into sub-blocks. A sub-carrier mapper maps the sub-blocks onto adjacent sub-carrier blocks of an OFDM multi-carrier to form corresponding unprefixed OFDM symbols. A cyclic prefix adder adds a cyclic prefix to each mapped sub-block to form prefixed OFDM symbols. Phase compensations force the unprefixed OFDM symbol part of all subsequently up-converted prefixed OFDM symbols to start at the same phase. Up-converters up-convert the phase compensated prefixed OFDM symbols to respective radio frequency bands having center frequencies and bandwidths that preserve the OFDM multi-carrier structure. A combiner combines the up-converted phase compensated prefixed OFDM symbols into an OFDM signal.

  • Publication number: 20120044824
Abstract: In a radio communication network there are a number of radio base stations, at least one of which belongs to a first radio access network and manages at least one active cell serving user equipment. It is determined whether a passive other cell of a radio base station belonging to a second overlapping radio access network should be activated based on information representative of radio access preferences of the user equipment (S1). When it is determined that the passive other cell should be activated, the passive cell is requested to be activated by causing the corresponding radio base station belonging to the second overlapping radio access network to start transmission of cell-defining information (S2).

  • Publication number: 20110305180
Abstract: A radio communication network (1) comprises at least a radio base station (10) serving an active cell (15) and a radio base station (20, 30, 40) having a passive cell (25, 35, 45) and does not transmit any cell-defining information for the passive cell (25, 35, 45). User equipment (100) receives random access enabling information applicable to the passive cell (25, 35, 45) from the radio base station (10) serving the active cell (15). The user equipment (100) uses this information for compiling and transmitting a random access to the radio base station (20, 30, 40) of the passive cell (25, 35, 45). Upon reception of the random access, the radio base station (20, 30, 40) activates its passive cell (25, 35, 45) and starts transmission of cell-defining information for the now activated cell (25, 35, 45) to assist user equipment (10) in finding the cell (25, 35, 45) for radio communication service.

  • Publication number: 20110300887
Abstract: In a radio communication network having one or more active cells, a basic idea is to request (S1) signal strength measurements in an area of at least one passive other cell of a radio base station currently not transmitting any cell-defining information for the passive cell. Based on received information representative of the requested signal strength measurements, at least one passive cell is selected (S2) for activation, and the selected cell is then requested to be activated (S3) by causing the corresponding radio base station managing the selected cell to start transmission of cell-defining information to assist user equipment in finding the cell. In this way the invention allows cells to stay passive for as long as possible to reduce power consumption, and allows passive cells to be activated when needed to ensure satisfactory communication services for the users.

  • Patent number: 8027643
Abstract: The present invention relates to radio base stations including a standardized interface CPRI between a Radio Equipment (RE) and a Radio Equipment Controller (REC). The present invention also relates to a method. The problem addressed is how to convey calibration information from the RE to the REC, when the capacity is occupied by radio IQ samples. The solution is to suppress the IQ samples to get capacity for the calibration information. Various embodiments of the invention focus on reducing the negative impact the suppression of IQ data may have on detecting the signals received.

  • Publication number: 20110032910
Abstract: An interface, apparatus, and method are described for communication between a radio equipment control (REC) node and first and second radio equipment (RE) nodes in a radio base station that transceives information over radio interface using multiple antenna carriers. The REC node is separate from and coupled to the first RE node by a first transmission link, and the second RE node coupled to the first RE by a second transmission link. Both control information and user information intended for communication between the REC node and the first RE node and the REC and the second RE node are conveyed over the first transmission link. The first RE node also conveys information between the REC and second RE node. Many advantageous features are described.
