  • Publication number: 20200340273
Abstract: A locking mechanism for double doors includes a three-sided bar having a top side and a pair of vertical sides extending downwardly from the edges of the top side. Each vertical side includes a slot formed therein. An L-shaped bracket has a first section for attachment to an interior surface of a door, and a second section that extends through a slot in the door outwardly through the exterior side of the door. To lock the doors, the second portion of the bracket slides through the slots in the vertical sides of the bar. A lock hole is positioned on the second portion of the bracket, and when the three-sided bar is engaged with the bracket and the lock hole is positioned between the vertical sides of the bar, a padlock or combination lock engages the lock hole to hold the bar in place across the double doors.

  • Patent number: 8475171
Abstract: Techniques and tools for measuring cognitive ability and/or detecting cognitive impairment or decline. For example, techniques and tools are described that can be used to diagnose or test susceptibility to cognitive impairments in children or in elderly people (such as cognitive impairments associated with Alzheimer's Disease). Techniques and tools are described that can be used to evaluate treatment effects and/or measure cognitive decline over time.

  • Patent number: 6982361
Abstract: Methods and compositions for use in treating anxiety are provided. In the subject methods, an effective amount of an agent having ApoE3 activity is administered to a host suffering from an anxiety, e.g. excessive anxiety, unwanted anxiety, an anxiety disorder, etc. Also provided are methods and compositions for modulating adrenal steroidogenesis and/or release, particularly stress induced adrenal steroidogenesis and/or release, and the hippocampal-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. In these methods, an effective amount of an ApoE activity modulating agent, e.g. an ApoE agonist or antagonist, is administered to the host.

  • Publication number: 20030139362
Abstract: Methods for treating a host, particularly a female host, for a cognitive decline disease condition are provided. Also provided are methods for improving the cognitive function of a host. In the subject methods, an effective amount of androgenic agent, e.g., a male sex hormone such as testosterone or analogue thereof, is administered to the host, resulting in at least an improvement in cognitive function of the host. The subject methods find use in a variety of different applications, and are particularly suited for use in treating female hosts for neurodegenerative disease conditions, e.g., Alzheimer's disease. Also provided are kits for use in practicing the subject methods.

  • Patent number: 6046381
Abstract: The present invention features non-human transgenic animal models for gene function, wherein the transgenic animal is characterized by having altered endogenous apolipoprotein E gene function and a transgene for an exogenous human apolipoprotein E isoform. The transgenic animals may be either homozygous or heterozygous for the transgene. The invention also features methods for using non-human transgenic animal models for the study of apolipoprotein E-mediated pathologies and the identification of compounds and therapies for such pathologies.
