  • Patent number: 10993029
Abstract: An audio system on a headset presents audio content via tissue conduction to an inner ear of a first ear of a user. The system monitors, via one or more sensors on the headset, data about the presented audio content. The one or more sensors including at least one sensor configured to capture data about the presented audio content at a second ear of the user. The system estimates array transfer functions (ATFs) associated with the data, and generates sound filters for the transducer array using the estimated ATFs. The system presents adjusted audio content based in part on the sound filters. The adjusted audio content has a damped region at the second ear such that the amplitude of the adjusted audio content at the first ear has a higher amplitude than at the second ear.

  • Patent number: 10979838
Abstract: A system reduces power consumption by optimizing a selection of acoustic sensors of a sensor array based on environmental parameters of a local area. The system includes the sensor array including the acoustic sensors configured to detect sound in a local area, and processing circuitry. The processing circuitry is configured to: determine an environmental parameter of the local area; determine a performance metric for the sensor array; determine a selection of a subset of acoustic sensors from the acoustic sensors of the sensor array that satisfies the performance metric based on the environmental parameter of the local area; and process audio data from the subset of the acoustic sensors of the sensor array.

  • Patent number: 10971130
Abstract: A computing device, such as a headset, provides for selective sound level reduction or sound level amplification for sounds made in a local area. The computing device includes a speaker assembly and a controller. The controller receives an audio signal from a second computing device, such as a second headset, via a wireless connection with the computing device. The audio signal describes a sound made by a user of the second computing device. The audio signal arrives at the computing device prior to the sound. The controller determines an audio filter to selectively adjust an amplitude of the sound and applies the audio filter to the audio signal to generate audio content. The controller presents, via the speaker assembly, the audio content to a user such that the presented audio content combines with the sound to selectively adjust the amplitude of the sound.

  • Patent number: 10957299
Abstract: An audio system for a wearable device dynamically updates acoustic transfer functions. The audio system is configured to estimate a direction of arrival (DoA) of each sound source detected by a microphone array relative to a position of the wearable device within a local area. The audio system may track the movement of each sound source. The audio system may form a beam in the direction of each sound source. The audio system may identify and classify each sound source based on the sound source properties. Based on the DoA estimates, the movement tracking, and the beamforming, the audio system generates or updates the acoustic transfer functions for the sound sources.

  • Publication number: 20210034725
Abstract: A wearable device includes an audio system. In one embodiment, the audio system includes a sensor array that includes a plurality of acoustic sensors. When a user wears the wearable device, the audio system determines an acoustic transfer function for the user based upon detected sounds within a local area surrounding the sensor array. Because the acoustic transfer function is based upon the size, shape, and density of the user's body (e.g., the user's head), different acoustic transfer functions will be determined for different users. The determined acoustic transfer functions are compared with stored acoustic transfer functions of known users in order to authenticate the user of the wearable device.

  • Patent number: 10897668
Abstract: An audio system for customizing sound fields for increased user privacy. A microphone array of a headset detects sounds from one or more sound sources in a local area of the headset. The audio system estimates array transfer functions (ATFs) associated with the sounds, and determines determining sound field reproduction filters for a loudspeaker array of the headset using the ATFs. The audio system presents audio content, via the loudspeaker array, based in part on the sound field reproduction filters. The presented audio content has a sound field that has a reduced amplitude in a first damped region of the local area that includes a first sound source of the one or more sound sources.

  • Patent number: 10812929
Abstract: An audio system presents spatialized audio content to a user that is individually calibrated for the user. The audio system presents sounds to the user, which reflects off the user's ear. An array of acoustic sensors of the audio system generate audio data from the presented sound. The audio system processes the audio data, using beamformers that each point to a respective portion of the ear, to generate beamformed signals. The audio system determines transfer functions that define transformations of the sound caused by reflections off the user's ear, using the beamformed signals. The audio system generates spatialized audio content for the ear based on the transfer functions.

  • Patent number: 10638252
Abstract: An audio assembly includes a microphone assembly, a controller, and a speaker assembly. The microphone assembly detects audio signals. The detected audio signals originate from audio sources located within a local area. Each audio source is associated with a respective beamforming filter. The controller determines beamformed data using the beamforming filters associated with each audio source and a relative contribution of each of the audio sources using the beamformed data. The controller generates updated beamforming filters for each of the audio sources based in part on the relative acoustic contribution of the audio source, a current location of the audio source, and a transfer function associated with audio signals produced by the audio source. The controller generates updated beamformed data using the updated beamforming filters and performs an action (e.g., via the speaker assembly) based in part on the updated beamformed data.
