  • Patent number: 5780465
Abstract: 4-Substituted 5-polycyclylpyrimidine compounds in which the 5-substituent is polycyclic and is attached to the pyrimidine moiety through an aliphatic carbon atom, such as 5-(2,2-dimethylindan-1-yl)-4-methylthiopyrimidine, were prepared and found to possess excellent herbicidal activity. The compounds are especially useful for the control of undesirable vegetation in paddy rice.

  • Patent number: 4874421
Abstract: The selectivity of aryloxyphenoxypropanoate herbicides, such as methyl 2-(4-((3-chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)-2-pyridinyl)oxy)phenoxy)propanoate, when used for the control of weeds in grassy crops, such as rice, can be improved by pre-treating the grassy crop seeds or plants with an amount of an aryloxyphenoxypropanoate herbicide sufficient to elevate the acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase enzyme activity level, but insufficient to cause phytotoxicity.
