  • Patent number: 9144121
Abstract: An optimum regulation method is disclosed for reconfigurable LED arrays used for general illumination applications. This document describes a reconfigurable LED array formed by connecting in series LED lamps and LED pairs capable of being reconfigured in either series or parallel. The performance deficiencies of previous solutions are solved by changing the knee voltage of the array through the reconfiguration of LED pairs. The simplicity of the concept can make practical the implementation of driverless LED lighting fixtures.

  • Patent number: 8901834
Abstract: An optimum LED lighting fixture and regulation method are disclosed for reconfigurable LED arrays used for general illumination applications in AC utility power systems. The method describes a double reconfiguration scheme of a plurality of LED arrays connected in parallel, and where each array comprises some LED pairs formed with two branches of LED lamps capable of changing their interconnection. The first reconfiguration comprises changing the interconnection of the LED pairs to either parallel or series, and the second, comprises changing the number of active LED arrays within the plurality. The method comprises changing the number of active LED arrays as a way of having the magnitude of the current through said plurality to follow the magnitude of the applied voltage. The performance deficiencies of the prior arts are overcome by proposing and LED lighting fixture with higher energy efficiencies, higher power ratings, and lower harmonics generation.

This document describes a reconfigurable LED array formed by connecting in series LED lamps and LED pairs capable of being reconfigured in either series or parallel. The performance deficiencies of previous solutions are solved by changing the voltage rating of the array through the reconfiguration of LED pairs. The simplicity of the concept can make practical the implementation of driverless LED lighting fixtures.
