    Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for reducing mobile terminal energy consumption during data transmissions by allocating resources and adapting link parameters in an energy-aware manner, based on throughput requirements and prevailing signal propagation conditions. A combination of transmit parameters designed to minimize the total energy consumed during data transmission is selected based on a throughput requirement and a path loss associated with a data transmission by a mobile terminal. The combination of transmit parameters includes a bandwidth allocation and may also include a modulation format, coding scheme, and transmit power setting, as well as parameters relating to multiple-antenna transmit schemes. The bandwidth allocation may correspond to a number of sub-carriers of an OFDM signal, or may correspond to a number of resource blocks in an SC-FDMA signal.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a system, terminals, and a method of communicating broadcast information where broadcast information comprising at least two parts is transmitted to at least one communications terminal. The transmission comprises transmitting the broadcast information during at least a first time instance, and where the transmission further comprises transmitting incremental broadcast information during a time instance being different than the first time instance. In this way, by sending the broadcast information in increments, i.e. incrementally, it is ensured that terminals capable of it (due to better capabilities like higher information rate, greater bandwidth, etc. and/or due to better location like near the base station, having favorable propagation conditions, having line-of-sight to the base station, etc.

    Abstract: A device that uses Ultra-Wideband modulation techniques is operated in a low duty cycle mode in which an amount of time during which the device is permitted to transmit a signal is limited. In response to ascertaining that a high-throughput service is to be performed, the device operates in a detect and avoid mode in which it is permitted to transmit continuously on a selected frequency band at a maximum output power until a victim service is detected operating on the selected frequency band. In response to a victim service being detected, the device is again operated in the low duty cycle mode while attempting to identify another frequency band in which to operate the device in the detect and avoid mode. Measures can be taken to maintain a comparable QoS in LDC mode while the device searches for a new DAA mode frequency band.

The transceiver comprises a receiver and a transmitter for bidirectionally communicating with a second transceiver. In various embodiments, data and control traffic scheduling enables several unrelated items to be bundled during single transmission and/or reception instances. In one aspect, receiver operation involves receiving a first signal from the second transceiver, the first signal requiring that return link information be sent to the second transceiver. A period of time during which the first transceiver can begin a bundled transmission of the return link information and initiating link information that is unrelated to the information carried by the first signal is determined. The bundled transmission of the initiating and return link information is begun during the determined period of time.

If the transmitter output power of the transceiver is in the low-power domain, then transceiver operation is initiated in a full-duplex mode in which transmitted and received signals pass through a duplexer associated with a transceiver antenna. If the transmitter output power of the transceiver is in the high-power domain, then transceiver operation is initiated in a half-duplex mode and bypassing the duplexer.

    Abstract: A single-carrier signal is generated from a number, N, of symbols in a way that results in a low PAPR. This includes generating an initial set of N complex frequency components from the N symbols. Ns different sets of N complex frequency components are generated by, for each of Ns times, permuting the initial set of N complex frequency components by one of Ns possible permutations. Ns different sets of M complex frequency components are generated by mapping each of the Ns different sets of N complex frequency components onto a set of M carrier frequencies. After shaping, an IDFT generates a candidate set of N time-domain symbols from each of the Ns different sets of M complex frequency components. That one of the Ns different candidate sets of N time-domain symbols that is associated with the smallest PAPR is selected for further processing.

A controller analyzes the requested bandwidth ratios and allocates slots in the base station radios according to a packing scheme that synchronizes the transmission and receive timing of the multiple base station radios communication links. The resource management and traffic control techniques may be applied to a variety of communication devices communicating over a variety of interfaces, such as WLAN or a BLUETOOTH short range communications technology interface. Furthermore, the techniques can be employed with devices communicating with two or more remote devices via different interfaces.

The second calibration period begins at a second start time, wherein a second time offset value is equal to a difference between the second start time and a transition point of the reference clock signal within the second calibration period. The first and second time offset values are different from one another. Measurements are generated by, for each one of the calibration periods, measuring the speed of the reference clock. The measurements are then averaged.

    Abstract: Networking in uncoordinated frequency hopping piconets includes forming an anchor piconet from a plurality of wireless units that are in range of one another. An anchor unit is selected from the plurality of wireless units. A beacon signal is generated from the anchor unit and the remaining wireless units are locked onto the beacon signal. An additional embodiment the invention in peer-to-peer ad-hoc networking includes establishing at least one anchor piconet and establishing at least one traffic piconet between at least two wireless units in the anchor piconet. The traffic piconet is established using information relayed from the anchor unit to each wireless unit that participates in the traffic piconet. Since the anchor unit knows routing and identification information of all the wireless units, the traffic piconets can be established with minimal delay.
