Abstract: A social networking system includes a tool that assists users in removing friends and/or classifying friends as mere acquaintances. The tool predicts friends that a user is likely to remove or reclassify based on a set of features that has been found to predict this using machine learning algorithms. The set of features in the predictive model may include selected attributes about the users (e.g., declared/profile information, user history, and/or social information). For each user of the social networking system, the user's relationships with other users on the social networking system are ranked based on statistical correlations derived from the predictive model.
