  • Patent number: 4360656
Abstract: Alternating copolyestercarbonate resins having repeating units of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is para-phenylene; each R is independently an aromatic hydrocarbylene or inertly substituted aromatic hydrocarbylene, e.g., ##STR2## and x is a number from 0.05 to 0.65 exhibit physical properties such as heat resistance, clarity and impact strength that are superior to the comparable properties of corresponding random copolymers. Such resins are useful for making transparent tough films and molded articles having high heat resistance.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 22, 1980
Date of Patent: November 23, 1982
    Assignee: The Dow Chemical Co.
Inventors: Daniel J. Swart, Jacqueline S. Kelyman
  • Patent number: 4278787
Abstract: Alternating copolyestercarbonate resins having repeating units of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is meta-phenylene and R is independently an aromatic hydrocarbylene or inertly substituted aromatic hydrocarbylene, e.g., ##STR2## exhibit physical properties such as heat resistance, clarity and impact strength that are superior to the comparable properties of corresponding random copolymers and exhibit physical properties such as impact strength and processability that are superior to the comparable properties of corresponding alternating copolyestercarbonates wherein R.sup.1 is para-phenylene. Such resins are useful for making transparent tough films and molded articles having high heat resistance.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 7, 1980
Date of Patent: July 14, 1981
    Assignee: The Dow Chemical Company
Inventors: Daniel J. Swart, Jacqueline S. Kelyman
  • Patent number: 4152342
Abstract: Novel polyamines are disclosed which consist essentially of linear chains of the formula ##STR1## WHEREIN R is H or the acyl group of a fatty acid or an alkylsulfonic acid and n is a number about 6-22. Of the n units in the chain, in about 0 to 50% R is an acyl group of about 20-150 carbon atoms, in about 5-75% R is an acyl group of about 1-18 carbon atoms and in about 10-90% R is H.The compounds are made by appropriate partial acylation of the corresponding polyethylenepolyamine or by (a) polymerizing a 2-alkyl-2-oxazoline and then partially hydrolyzing and reacylating the polymer thus obtained. They are useful as surfactants, especially as detergents in lubricating oils.

Inventors: Jacqueline S. Kelyman, George A. Paul
  • Patent number: 4120804
Abstract: Oil soluble polymers corresponding to the formula ##STR1## are ashless oil dispersants in lubricating oils and fuels. In formulas I and II, R is a saturated or substantially saturated polyolefin having a molecular weight of at least about 250; R.sub.1 is hydrogen or ##STR2## wherein R.sub.2 is hydrogen or alkyl of from 1 to about 18 carbon atoms with at least about 60 percent of the R.sub.1 groups being ##STR3## X is ##STR4## Y is a terminal group; and n is from 2 to about 15.

  • Patent number: 4087413
Abstract: The title compounds are prepared by contacting a linear, acylated polyalkylenepolyamine, such as poly(N-propionyl)ethylenimine, and a diisocyanate, such as toluene diisocyanate, at a temperature of about 30.degree.-200.degree. C. These novel, crosslinked polyalkylenepolyamines are useful water absorbants and bleach Kraft-pulp effluent decolorants.
