  • Publication number: 20100267679
Abstract: Heart diseases such as myocardial infarction and cerebro-vascular diseases remain major causes of death. The underlying disease process involved is usually atherosclerosis. The cause of human atherosclerosis is unknown. At best we know of risk factors. The purpose of the present invention is to act on the risk factors so as to reduce or prevent the development or evolution of atherosclerosis and reduce coronary heart diseases and cerebro-vascular diseases. That treatment is easy to use, effective, safe, and readily available. The present invention describes a pharmaceutical combination of medication for that very purpose. The combination comprises the following ingredients: (1) an angiotensin converting enzyme blocker (ACE), (2) a Beta adrenergic blocker, (3) an antiplatelet agent, (4) a Statin, (5) a calcium channel blocker. Some definitions need to be clarified. Arteriosclerosis is a general term describing any hardening (and loss of elasticity) of medium or large arteries.

  • Publication number: 20100261686
Abstract: The management of pain specially chronic pain often requires the use of opiate like medications which have a large number of undesirable effects, the most important one being habituation and addiction. The present invention consists of an integrated combination of medications acting through different mechanisms that are just as powerful as opiates in the management of pain without many of the undesirable side effects such as habituation and addiction.

  • Publication number: 20100261684
Abstract: As many as 60% of patients who experience an acute coronary syndrome die before they even reach a hospital or other health care facilities, hence the importance of an effective treatment that the patient can self-administer at the first symptom or sign of an acute coronary syndrome. That treatment needs to act rapidly, to be easy to use, to be effective, to be safe, and readily available. The present invention describes a pharmaceutical combination containing a beta blocker agent, one or more anti-platelet agent(s) and a coronary vaso-dilator agent all included in a dose format to be taken orally or by sublingual spray to prevent myocardial infarction.

  • Patent number: 4920542
Abstract: A tunable multisection laser of the invention includes an active layer (C2) which is thicker in a phase tuning section (S3) and in a grating section (S2) including a Bragg distributed reflector (R) having a controllable equivalent pitch than it is in a light amplification section (S1). The invention is particularly applicable to making components for telecommunications by means of optical fibers.
