  • Patent number: 5300268
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of an aqueous solution of ferric chloride including the steps of introducing an aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid into a reactor containing a bed of fragments of an oxide-containing iron ore so that the aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid travels upwardly through the bed, collecting a suspension of ore particles in an aqueous solution of ferric chloride from the bed mechanically separating the ore particles from the aqueous solution of ferric chloride of the suspension, and recycling the ore particles by adding the ore particles to the aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid upstream of the bed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 29, 1992
Date of Patent: April 5, 1994
    Assignee: Solvay (Societe Anonyme)
Inventors: Jacques Van Diest, Jacques Brahm
  • Patent number: 4857292
Abstract: An aqueous sodium hypochlorite solution (3) is added, in a quantity which is deficient relative to that required to decompose the entire amount of calcium chloride, to an aqueous calcium chloride solution (2), the sodium chloride which precipitates (6) is separated and the remaining amount (9) of the sodium hypochlorite solution is then added to the resulting mother-liquor (7). Single FIGURE.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 11, 1987
Date of Patent: August 15, 1989
Assignee: SOLVAY & Cie (Societe Anonyme)
Inventors: Jacques Brahm, Pierre Cornu, Pierre Garnier, Jean Verlaeten, Jacques Van Diest
  • Patent number: 4428918
Abstract: Process and plant for the preparation of concentrated aqueous solutions of alkali metal hypochlorite, in which a suspension of crystals of alkali metal chloride in an aqueous solution of alkali metal hypochlorite is circulated from bottom to top in a tubular reaction chamber located in an enclosure, chlorine and an aqueous solution of alkali metal hydroxide are reacted in this suspension in the chamber, a fraction of the resulting suspension leaving the open upper part of the chamber, overflows out of the enclosure and is filtered to separate the crystals, and the remaining fraction of the suspension is kept in the enclosure where it is recycled to the base of the reaction chamber.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 1, 1981
Date of Patent: January 31, 1984
    Assignee: Solvay & Cie.
    Inventors: Jean Verlaeten, Jacques Brahm
  • Patent number: 4242318
Abstract: Process for the preparation of an aqueous suspension containing at least 65% by weight of calcium carbonate, in which process calcium carbonate is crystallized in a dilute aqueous medium, a wet concentrate of calcium carbonate is separated from the resulting dilute aqueous suspension of calcium carbonate and the said calcium carbonate concentrate is fluidized and homogenized in the presence of a dispersing agent. The calcium carbonate is crystallized in the presence of a water-soluble polyelectrolyte and the calcium carbonate concentrate is separated from the dilute suspension of calcium carbonate by essentially mechanical separating means.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 10, 1978
Date of Patent: December 30, 1980
    Assignee: Solvay & Cie.
Inventors: Jacques Brahm, Jean-Pierre De Rath
  • Patent number: 4079016
Abstract: A solid composition for washing, cleaning and bleaching includes at least one basic compound and a solid polylactone derived from a polymer of an .alpha.-hydroxyacrylic acid. The .alpha.-hydroxyacrylic acid from which the solid polylactone is derived contains monomeric units of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 independently represent hydrogen or an alkyl group containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms.

  • Patent number: 4076643
Abstract: The free flowing premixes which are intended to be added to detergent or washing powders, consists of particles which comprise, in the form of a water-soluble salt, a linear or branched hydroxycarboxylic polymer or copolymer, the main chain of which contains essentially carbon and carries carboxyl and hydroxyl groups in the respective proportion of 1:10 to 20:1, and one or more surface-active agents which are liquid or paste-like at a temperature below 180.degree. C, in combination with the said polymer or copolymer.
