Abstract: Sliding electric contacts are disclosed which may be used, for example, to maintain electrical contact between two moving parts in a rotating machine. Electrical contact between two such parts separated by a constant average distance is maintained during movement of the parts by use of at least one multifilament brush formed as a bundle of thin wires having a fixed end and a free end wherein the free end has a length which is at least 10 percent greater than the constant average distance between the moving parts. The moving parts may be in the form of various configurations of commutators and the electric contacts may be used to maintain electrical contact between the parts within a fluid medium.
