  • Patent number: 5657412
Abstract: A fibre-optic splice case has a support for a sealed box which contains a splice connection strip that connects together the ends of two optical fibres from two separate cables. The box is a sealed assembly having a centre of symmetry. The two cables are connectable to the box. The box has a cylindrical support with a central drum and a coaxial outer wall defines therebetween a housing in which the two cables are unreeled or reeled-up in order to deliver or take up a length of cable sufficient to allow the splice to be made. The box also has two separate straight sides each lying substantially in an extension of the other. The straight sides tubular passages are provided for fixing the ends of the two cables. The ends of these straight sides are joined with bottoms of circular overall shape, giving the box a cross-section in the form of a snail-shell.

  • Patent number: 5526833
Abstract: A device for degreasing pieces such as optical fibers of a stripped cable comprises a tank containing a liquid solvent in which the pieces are immersed, a pressurized gas container having a gas outlet nozzle, a receptacle for holding the container vertical with the nozzle at the bottom, and a diffuser for gas passing from the nozzle into the liquid solvent below the pieces. The gas diffused into the solvent is cold and causes turbulence of the solvent. The grease is detached from the pieces and falls into a cavity.

  • Patent number: 5418884
Abstract: A process for cleaning and in particular degreasing optical fibers (6) emerging from the stripped end of the sheath of a cable (5), surrounding in particular a plurality of such fibers protected by a material based on grease or the like. According to the invention, this process consists in utilizing a liquid solvent (13) applied to the external surface of the fiber in the form of a foam, composed of a mixture of solvent and air, increasing the contact surface of the fiber and the solvent. The subject of the invention is also an apparatus for carrying out this process.
