  • Patent number: 8851227
Abstract: A bearing assembly is for a mechanism including a housing and a rotatable shaft disposed within the housing. The bearing assembly includes a sleeve disposable within the housing and having an inner circumferential surface defining a bore and a radial surface extending radially inwardly from the inner surface. A bearing is disposed within the bore and includes inner and outer races and rolling elements disposed between the races, the inner race being coupleable with the shaft such that the shaft and the inner race rotate as a single unit. Further, a biasing member biases the outer race generally against the sleeve radial surface or a housing radial surface to prevent axial displacement of the outer race during shaft rotation. Preferably, a retainer couples the biasing member with the outer race to retain the bearing and the biasing member within the bore when the assembly is separate from the housing.

  • Patent number: 8485734
Abstract: This ball bearing (1) forms an axial force transmission member and comprises an inner ring (3) and an outer ring (4), and a single series of balls (6) placed in a rolling chamber between the inner ring (3) and the outer ring (4). A first ring (4), amongst the inner ring (3) and the outer ring (4), forms a travel track (411) in a section of a sphere centered on a geometric point (C4) belonging to an axis of symmetry (X4) of this first ring (4). The first ring (4) supports a seal (11) insulating the rolling chamber relative to the outside. The second ring (3), amongst the inner ring (3) and the outer ring (4), is provided with a sealing zone (314) designed to interact with the seal and in the shape of a section of a sphere centered on a second geometric point (C3) belonging to an axis of symmetry (X3) of the second ring. The radii (R3, R4) of the sections of a sphere are different.

  • Publication number: 20110187071
Abstract: A rolling bearing includes a bottom ring, a top ring having a skirt with at least one radial protrusion, and a plurality of rolling elements disposed between the rings. A seal is radially disposed between the top and bottom rings and includes an annular radial rib, the rib being positioned axially above the radial protrusion of the top ring skirt so as to interfere diametrically with the radial protrusion and configured to frictionally contact the skirt to attach the seal to the top ring, and a retainer configured to axially retain the bottom ring relative to the top ring. A suspension thrust bearing device includes the rolling bearing and a support element for the rolling bearing forming bearing means for a spring, and a suspension strut for a motor vehicle includes the suspension thrust bearing device.

  • Patent number: 5642772
Abstract: A process and apparatus for cooling the external surface of rolls used in continuous casting of metal strip. According to the invention, the direction of cooling fluid flowing through the rolls is periodically reversed in order to reduce the thermal ovalization of the rolls.

  • Patent number: 5224535
Abstract: A method of avoiding run out on a machine for casting between rolls is disclosed. The method measures the value of a parameter such as the electric strength or fluid pressure supplying the motor which rotates the rolls, or the torque or force exerted by the strip on at least one of the rolls, at at least 20 equidistant positions at the periphery of at least one of the rolls and during each revolution. As soon as a reduction in the value of at least one of these parameters is observed in 3 successive positions during revolution n, relative to the value at the same positions read during revolution n-1, the rotary speed of the roll is reduced until the difference disappears, then the roll is gradually returned to the initial speed. This method enables strips of normal length to be cast without any being discarded and without any scrap being produced.

  • Patent number: 4834714
Abstract: The desired invention concerns a syringe with a double compartment. The first compartment (10) is bounded by a first cylinder (12), closed off at one end by a first partition (13) in which an opening (15) is provided, and at its other end by a first sliding piston (14). This syringe also contains a second cylinder (17) coaxial to and inside of the first cylinder, attached at its first extremity to the first piston and closed of at its second extremity by a second partition (18), and an axial rod (16), coaxial to and inside of the secnd cylinder, that is attached to the first partition by its first extremity, sliding across the first piston (14) and supporting at its other extremity a second piston (19) that slides into the second cylinder. In this manner, a second compartment is formed by the second cylinder, the second piston, and the second partition, the volumes contained in the two compartments fluctuating simultaneously when the second cylinder is shifted in relation to the first one.

  • Patent number: 4757259
Abstract: A non-contacting, eddy current, measuring method for determining the thickness and temperature of a moving metal sheet as in a metal rolling operation. Two separate magnetic fields are generated by applying two voltages of differing frequencies to a primary winding on one side of the sheet to induce two voltages in an opposed secondary winding on the other side of the sheet. The generated voltages are used to determine the calibration constants required to calculate the thickness and temperature of the moving sheet.
