Patent number: 8851227Abstract: A bearing assembly is for a mechanism including a housing and a rotatable shaft disposed within the housing. The bearing assembly includes a sleeve disposable within the housing and having an inner circumferential surface defining a bore and a radial surface extending radially inwardly from the inner surface. A bearing is disposed within the bore and includes inner and outer races and rolling elements disposed between the races, the inner race being coupleable with the shaft such that the shaft and the inner race rotate as a single unit. Further, a biasing member biases the outer race generally against the sleeve radial surface or a housing radial surface to prevent axial displacement of the outer race during shaft rotation. Preferably, a retainer couples the biasing member with the outer race to retain the bearing and the biasing member within the bore when the assembly is separate from the housing.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2010Date of Patent: October 7, 2014Assignee: Aktiebolaget SKFInventors: Christophe Houdayer, Jacques Charpentier, Benoit Arnault, Yves Liverato, Sylvain Bussit, Carole Girardin

Patent number: 8485734Abstract: This ball bearing (1) forms an axial force transmission member and comprises an inner ring (3) and an outer ring (4), and a single series of balls (6) placed in a rolling chamber between the inner ring (3) and the outer ring (4). A first ring (4), amongst the inner ring (3) and the outer ring (4), forms a travel track (411) in a section of a sphere centered on a geometric point (C4) belonging to an axis of symmetry (X4) of this first ring (4). The first ring (4) supports a seal (11) insulating the rolling chamber relative to the outside. The second ring (3), amongst the inner ring (3) and the outer ring (4), is provided with a sealing zone (314) designed to interact with the seal and in the shape of a section of a sphere centered on a second geometric point (C3) belonging to an axis of symmetry (X3) of the second ring. The radii (R3, R4) of the sections of a sphere are different.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 2009Date of Patent: July 16, 2013Assignee: Aktiebolaget SKFInventors: Benoit Arnault, Yves-André Liverato, Jacques Charpentier, Sylvain Bussit

Publication number: 20110187071Abstract: A rolling bearing includes a bottom ring, a top ring having a skirt with at least one radial protrusion, and a plurality of rolling elements disposed between the rings. A seal is radially disposed between the top and bottom rings and includes an annular radial rib, the rib being positioned axially above the radial protrusion of the top ring skirt so as to interfere diametrically with the radial protrusion and configured to frictionally contact the skirt to attach the seal to the top ring, and a retainer configured to axially retain the bottom ring relative to the top ring. A suspension thrust bearing device includes the rolling bearing and a support element for the rolling bearing forming bearing means for a spring, and a suspension strut for a motor vehicle includes the suspension thrust bearing device.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 3, 2011Publication date: August 4, 2011Applicant: AKTIEBOLAGET SKFInventors: Richard Corbett, Chrstophe Houdayer, Désiré Vidot, Cédric Brulard, Jacques Charpentier

Process and device for correcting the ovalization of rolls for the continuous casting of metal strip
Patent number: 5642772Abstract: A process and apparatus for cooling the external surface of rolls used in continuous casting of metal strip. According to the invention, the direction of cooling fluid flowing through the rolls is periodically reversed in order to reduce the thermal ovalization of the rolls.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1995Date of Patent: July 1, 1997Assignee: Pechiney RhenaluInventors: Jacques Charpentier, Marcel Cortes -
Patent number: 5224535Abstract: A method of avoiding run out on a machine for casting between rolls is disclosed. The method measures the value of a parameter such as the electric strength or fluid pressure supplying the motor which rotates the rolls, or the torque or force exerted by the strip on at least one of the rolls, at at least 20 equidistant positions at the periphery of at least one of the rolls and during each revolution. As soon as a reduction in the value of at least one of these parameters is observed in 3 successive positions during revolution n, relative to the value at the same positions read during revolution n-1, the rotary speed of the roll is reduced until the difference disappears, then the roll is gradually returned to the initial speed. This method enables strips of normal length to be cast without any being discarded and without any scrap being produced.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1992Date of Patent: July 6, 1993Assignee: Pechiney RhenaluInventor: Jacques Charpentier

Patent number: 4834714Abstract: The desired invention concerns a syringe with a double compartment. The first compartment (10) is bounded by a first cylinder (12), closed off at one end by a first partition (13) in which an opening (15) is provided, and at its other end by a first sliding piston (14). This syringe also contains a second cylinder (17) coaxial to and inside of the first cylinder, attached at its first extremity to the first piston and closed of at its second extremity by a second partition (18), and an axial rod (16), coaxial to and inside of the secnd cylinder, that is attached to the first partition by its first extremity, sliding across the first piston (14) and supporting at its other extremity a second piston (19) that slides into the second cylinder. In this manner, a second compartment is formed by the second cylinder, the second piston, and the second partition, the volumes contained in the two compartments fluctuating simultaneously when the second cylinder is shifted in relation to the first one.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1987Date of Patent: May 30, 1989Inventors: Marcel Lascar, Jacques Charpentier

Method for measuring the thickness and temperature of a moving metal sheet by means of eddy currents
Patent number: 4757259Abstract: A non-contacting, eddy current, measuring method for determining the thickness and temperature of a moving metal sheet as in a metal rolling operation. Two separate magnetic fields are generated by applying two voltages of differing frequencies to a primary winding on one side of the sheet to induce two voltages in an opposed secondary winding on the other side of the sheet. The generated voltages are used to determine the calibration constants required to calculate the thickness and temperature of the moving sheet.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1986Date of Patent: July 12, 1988Assignee: Cegedur Societe de Transformation de l'Aluminium PechineyInventor: Jacques Charpentier -
Patent number: 4648294Abstract: Machine for machining a groove round the external periphery of the base of a nozzle and notably enabling the back of a weld to be reworked from the outside when a nozzle is being installed on a nuclear reactor vessel. The machine comprises a cylindrical drum (5) in two parts (41, 45) equipped with locking and position-holding shoes (6), a machining head driven in rotation by means of a gear ring (9) and a pinion (17). The cylindrical drum (5, 41, 45) is locked and held in position with respect to the nozzle (1) by means of an intermediate coupling ring (23) secured by screws (31) to the nozzle (1) and by the locking shoes (6) fixed to hydraulic rams (47).Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1985Date of Patent: March 10, 1987Assignees: SKF Compagnie d'Applications Mechaniques, FramatomeInventors: Alain Jacquot, Jacques Charpentier
