  • Publication number: 20240133759
Abstract: A pressure-measuring device including an optical fibre with a thinned portion, a laser, called the heating laser, arranged to emit an optical wave, called the heating wave, into the thinned portion, a measuring means including a sensor that is arranged to measure a backscattered optical wave that is generated by an optical wave, called the interrogation wave, and that originates in the thinned portion of the optical fibre, and a processing unit arranged and/or programmed to measure a pressure of a fluid, preferably a gas, encircling the thinned portion, on the basis of the measurement of the backscattered wave.

  • Publication number: 20220397722
Abstract: A process for delaying a useful optical signal (P1) having a wavelength value ? between 0.2 ?m and 3 ?m, with respect to a reference optical signal (P2) having the same wavelength value ?. The process includes having the useful optical signal propagate along a tapered fiber portion. A length of the tapered fiber portion can be varied using stretching means that are light, less cumbersome and less expensive compared to those necessary for a standard optical fiber. In addition, the delay value which is effective for the useful optical signal can be varied over a wide range. Such process can be useful for interferometry measurements in particular.

  • Publication number: 20090178738
Abstract: An insulated, self-annealing enclosure is taught, having an enclosure body for encasing one or more heated sheet metal coils, having an open bottom for receiving the heated coils and a floor that sealingly engages the open bottom of the enclosure body. A method is also taught for batch production of annealed sheet metal coils by loading a first batch of coils into an annealing furnace and heating the coils to a predetermined temperature. Next, the heated coils are transferred to a self-annealing enclosure. A second batch of coils is then loaded into the annealing furnace. Finally, a method is described for annealing sheet metal coils, involving heating the coils in an annealing furnace to a predetermined temperature, then loading the heated coils into a self-annealing enclosure and holding the heated coils inside the enclosure for a predetermined length of time.

  • Patent number: 5230745
Abstract: A thermocouple housing having a ceramic protection tube with a closed end for immersion into a metal melt and an open end for receiving thermocouple wires. The ceramic protection tube has a reduced diameter portion spaced from the open end by a distance x. A metal protection tube having a threaded end and adapted at an opposite end for attachment to a connection head for electrical connection of the thermocouple wires to a meter for measuring a potential difference between the wires is connected to the ceramic protection tube by an adaptor. The adaptor comprises a hollow body having a through passage which receives the ceramic protection tube at one end and the metal protection tube at an opposite end, the through passage being threaded for coupling to the metal protection tube. A radially inwardly directed shoulder projecting into the through passage is spaced from the threaded end by a distance which exceeds x and is dimensioned so as to accommodate the open end of the ceramic protection tube.
