  • Patent number: 4780303
Abstract: Processes for the continuous preparation of high concentration sodium hypochlorite which controls sodium chloride formed to prevent fouling of heat exchanger equipment and to provide sodium chloride particle sizes on the order of 400 microns or greater to facilitate filtration and reduce the mother liquor retention in the salt, which processes comprise reacting in two stages pure chlorine or chlorine diluted with inert gases with a sodium hydroxide having a concentration of from about 20 to about 50 weight percent, in which the first stage of chloration of the sodium hydroxide is carried out in an absorption column wherein the concentration of sodium hypochlorite and sodium hydroxide are respectively limited to 15% and 4.5% by weight, and in the second stage of chloration, the sodium hypochlorite solution leaving the absorption column is treated with pure chlorine or chlorine diluted with inert gases in a crystallizer equipped with suitable agitation.

  • Patent number: 4530823
Abstract: A process for preparing uranium peroxide in a fluidized bed by precipitation of a uranium peroxide solution obtained from the reaction of uranyl sulfate or uranyl nitrate solutions having a concentration of uranium between about 0.5 and 300 g/L and a hydrogen peroxide solution having a concentration of from about 5 to about 70% by weight at a pH of from about 2.5 to about 4 and a temperature of from about 0.degree. to about 60.degree. C.; together with the easily handled uranium peroxide product so produced, these products being characterized by their substantially spherical form, their mean diameter of from about 30 to about 130 microns, their untamped bulk density of about 1.9 to about 2 g/cm.sup.3, and their Carr scale flowability of at least 95, with a sodium ion content below 300 ppm, such uranium peroxides being useful intermediates for producing nuclear fuel with great safety of manipulation and low sodium content.

  • Patent number: 4476101
Abstract: A novel easily handled substantially particulate ammonium uranate with a mean diameter between 30 and 150 micrometers, an apparent untamped bulk density of 2 to 2.8 g/cm.sup.3, and a flowability measured on the Carr scale equal to or greater than 95, with a low sulfate ion content between 0.5 and 1%, together with a fluidized bed process for preparing such ammonium uranate by precipitation of a super-saturated solution of ammonium uranate obtained by reacting an uranium sulfate solution and an ammoniacal solution, operating at a pH of about 6.6 to 7.2.

  • Patent number: 4352857
Abstract: Sodium uranate which is easy to handle, characterized by the spherical form of the grains, the average diameter thereof, between 40 and 150 .mu.m, their uncompacted apparent bulk density of 2.5 to 3.5 g/cm.sup.3 and a flow value higher than or equal to 95, measured on the CARR scale produced by diluting the sodium uranate-containing solution introduced into a fluid bed reactor to between about 0.5 and 5 g/l within a period of less than about 2 seconds before the uranium-containing solution enters the reactor.

  • Patent number: 4317802
Abstract: The process relates to the separation of the molybdenum and/or tungsten, titanium, vanadium, niobium or tantalum present in the form of organometallic compounds in residual effluents. It is applicable, in particular, to the effluents originating from the epoxidation of olefins by hydroperoxides. The process involves treating the effluent with from 1 to 10% by weight of water, at between 150.degree. and 220.degree. C. under pressure, to render the metals listed above insoluble, without forming a distinct aqueous phase. The solid phase containing more than 95% of the metals is separated by filtration. After treatment, the effluents can be used without disadvantage, for example as a fuel, and the metals can be recovered from the solid phase.
