  • Patent number: 10830283
Abstract: A dust boot (2) for an articulated transmission joint has a tulip (6) presenting an open end (62) and an opposite end designed to be secured to a first shaft (8), a second shaft (10), and rolling bearing means (3) mounted on an end (13) of the second shaft (10). The bearing means (3) has rolling elements (34) housed in a cage (32). The dust boot (2) includes a groove (24) suitable for receiving at least some of the rolling elements during an inclined movement of the second shaft (10) towards an outlet of the tulip, and a shoulder (22) separated from the groove (24) by a peripheral wall (25) that co-operates with the shoulder (22) to define a housing suitable for receiving a portion of the cage (32) of the bearing means (3) when the cage (32) is in abutment against the shoulder (22).

  • Patent number: 7597628
Abstract: A transmission joint consists of two drive shafts connected by an articulated mechanical connection. This connection is protected by an elastic socket, such as a sealing bellows, connecting the shafts. One end of this socket is multilobed to cover upon contact a multilobed element of the articulated mechanical connection and works with a tightening element of the collar type that surrounds the multilobed end of the socket. The multilobed end of the protective socket has, to the right of the zones of greater thickness of the multilobed wall, a reinforcement of the thickness to obtain an external radial bulge of the wall of the socket, at least when mounted on the multilobed connection element. The bulge works with the collar type tightening element to balance the tightening forces between the thin and reinforced portions of the multilobed wall.

  • Patent number: 6974387
Abstract: A flexible bellows, such as for protecting the end of a longitudinally movable steering rack, has a hollow connector mounted on it adjacent its larger diameter fixing collar. The connector enables a connection to be made from the interior of the bellows through a similar connector on a second bellows covering the opposite end of the rack and thus to the interior of the second bellows. As the rack moves to and fro, compressing one bellows and expanding the other, the increased pressure in the compressed bellows is automatically transferred to the expanded bellows. The connector is pre-produced, such as from relatively rigid material by a moulding operation, and then placed in the mould which is used for producing the bellows. A parison or preform of thermoplastics material is placed in the mould and then blown to form the bellows.

  • Patent number: 5562005
Abstract: A protective bellows for protecting the steering mechanism of a motor vehicle body is shown. The bellows has a fixing collar for gripping the outside of the casing of the steering mechanism, and a fixing collar for gripping a mounting region of the steering rod. In order to be fitted into position, however, the fixing collar has to be stretched to pass over a boss of enlarged diameter. The bellows is produced by blow-moulding from EPDM-polypropylene or similar thermoplastic material. Because of the lesser resilience of this material, compared with previously used materials such as thermoplastic polyurethane, the initial diameter of the fixing collar has to be selected in dependence on the relative values for the diameters of the boss and the mounting region in order to ensure that the pressure with which the fixing collar grips the mounting region provides adequate sealing not only initially but throughout the expected life of the bellows.
