    Abstract: New sulfonated bismuth compounds and the preparation thereof are described. These new compounds can be represented by the following general formulae: ##STR1## where R.sub.1 represents a monovalent linear or branched aliphatic hydrocarbonaceous radical containing 8 to 36 atoms of carbon, and R.sub.2 represents an atom of hydrogen or a monovalent linear or branched aliphatic hydrocarbonaceous radical containing 8 to 36 atoms of carbon. These compounds, which possess surface-active and wear-fighting properties, are used as fuel additives. They can also serve as starting materials in the manufacture of overbased colloidal products usable as lubricant additives by carbonation of at least one calcium, barium, or magnesium oxide or hydroxide, the carbonate formed being kept as a colloidal dispersion in an organic medium by using at least one of the sulfonated bismuth compounds (I) and (II).

    Abstract: A device for the axial stabilization of a cutting means, used to make at least one cut at one end of a bone with a view to the fitting of a prosthesis in bone surgery. It includes an axial centering rod that is introduced partially into the intramedullar canal of said bone and is designed to receive said one cutting means. The centering rod is provided with an anchoring thread so as to form a anchor bolt that is axially stabilized in a direction parallel to the axis of the rod. A clamping device is mounted to the rod and axially clamps the cutting means inst the bone.

These colloidal products can be used as wear resistance and extreme pressure additives in lubricants.

    Abstract: A kneecap cutting guide device for the fitting of a total knee replacement includes, a trial femur component having an artificial trochlea, a side hole made on at least one edge of said trial femur component, and a central hole made in the center of said trochelea. An ancillary device includes a fastening dog-point designed to cooperate with the side hole of the trial femur component. A kneecap plate is designed to be placed in a position of resting on the kneecap and a mechanism to center the plate in relation to said central hole of the artificial trochlea is provided. The guide device further incorporates means to shift the kneecap plate, enabling a crosswise motion with respect to said trochlea and an axial motion parallel to the central hole. There is also a mechanism for locking the plate in position and a surface for guiding a blade to cut the kneecap parallel to the plane of the trochlea.

These products result from the reaction on a superbasic detergent additive, optionally modified by reaction with a boron derivative, of a "small size" sulphur carboxylic acid complying with the general formulaX--R.sup.1 --Sx--R.sup.3 --Sy--R.sup.2 --COOHin which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each represent a divalent hydrocarbon radical, R.sup.3 represents a single bond or a divalent hydrocarbon radical, X represents a hydrogen atom or a carboxylic group and x and y are in each case a mean value from 1 to 4 when R.sup.3 is a hydrocarbon radical and the sum x plus y is a mean value from 1 to 4 when R.sup.3 represents a single bond. Apart from their detergent properties, these products have high extreme pressure and antiwear properties, as well as an improved thermal stability and a satisfactory corrosivity with respect to copper.

    Abstract: Compositions of olefin polysulfides having an increased solubility in mineral oils and in synthetic oils, particularly of the hydrogenated polyalphaolefin (P.A.O.) type, are disclosed.They are prepared more particularly by reacting a sulfur monochloride with a monoolefin (e.g. isobutene) so as to form an addition product, called an adduct, which is then reacted with an alkali metal or ammonium polysulfide, obtained, for example, by reacting a mercaptan with an alkali hydroxide or ammonia in the presence of elemental sulfur. These compositions of olefin polysulfides can be used as extreme-pressure additives in gear-oils or in metal-working oils.
