    Abstract: A sewing machine is disclosed having an electric circuit divided into a first high-voltage section and a second low voltage section. The second section is supplied via a step-down transformer connected to the first section. The second section has a rectifier connected to the output of the transformer for dispensing DC power to the functional elements of the machine. The first circuit section, the transformer and some elements of the second section are contained in a remote housing which is separate from the machine and is linked to it by a cable. A foot pedal for actuating the machine is integral with the housing.

    Abstract: A motor controller for an electric sewing machine mounted in a removable portion of the housing of the machine. The controller is actuatable by a pneumatic switch which successively closes a plurality of contacts as the air pressure to the switch is increased to enable the speed of the motor to be increased smoothly and gradually without sparking at the contacts.

    Abstract: A control circuit for a direct current electric motor including a rectifying bridge for supplying the motor with direct current and a regulating circuit including a triac, the energizing angle of which is determined by a capacitor connected in series with a resistance network. An energy limiting circuit is provided including a resistance connectable in series with the resistance network and the capacitor when the voltage exceeds a predetermined value so that the motor can be operated on a 110 V or a 220 V supply.
