The disclosed communication mechanism can have multiple channels to send information (which may include code and/or data associated with the unsigned content) from the PCs to the gaming consoles. Such information may be distributed over several channels on the communication mechanism. For instance, the communication mechanism can first send a subset of a set of information from a computing system to a closed computing system. Then, depending on the closed system resources, the remaining set of information can be sent to the closed system.

    Abstract: Mechanisms are disclosed that allow for execution of unsigned content and the securing of resources in a closed system when such unsigned content is executing on the system. For example, an access layer is used between an operating system layer of the closed system and the actual unsigned content. This access layer may contain various sub-layers, such as a graphics layer, an audio layer, an input layer, and a storage layer. These layers can control access that the unsigned content can have to the native operating system layers and the associated resources of the closed system. By providing such an access layer, unsigned content, e.g., video games, can run on the closed system that is typically designed to run only signed content.

    Abstract: A safety device to lock a firing pin of a spin-stabilized projectile fuse includes a flexible strip and a spiral spring. The flexible strip is disposed around the firing pin and has a first end, a second end and a length. The flexible strip is made of an elastic material. The spiral spring is windable around the flexible strip in a safe position and is disposed to unwind under centrifugal force to a firing position. The spiral spring is made of a spring strip that is wound around itself. When the spiral spring unwinds, the flexible strip unwinds within the spiral spring without exerting an elastic return force toward the firing pin. The length of the flexible strip is dimensioned such that the first end is offset in a circumferential direction relative to the second end by an offset amount when the flexible strip presses against the spiral spring in the firing position. As a result, the spin-stabilized projectile fuse functions reliably.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a projectile comprising a shell body containing an explosive charge and a ballistic nose cone in which a trigger system is disposed. The ballistic nose cone is organized as two distinct parts which are connected together in axial alignment, comprising a bottom portion that is essentially rigid and a top portion that is essentially deformable on impact on a target. Each of the portions is charged with a compressed incendiary composition, and together they form a closed functional cavity whose shape is maintained on firing and during the trajectory of the projectile. The bottom portion also receives a layer of mechanically strong pyrophoric material, said material being set off by the charge in the ballistic nose cone which is itself set off on impact by the sudden increase in the pressure of the air contained in the closed functional cavity.

    Abstract: The security device of the invention comprises a movable organ in the interior of a cage mounted for rotation with respect to the body of a projectile, the movable organ being temporarily blocked from such rotation around the axis of gyration by at least one pin ejectable under the action of centrifugal force. Said pin is itself retained by an elastic spiral band enrolled upon the cage and which, as a result of a difference introduced into the speeds of respective rotation of the cage and of the body around the axis of gyration upon the exit of the projectile from the muzzle of the weapon, unwinds to liberate the pin. As a result, the movable organ after a trajectory of many tens of meters after the projectile has left the muzzle of the barrel of the weapon completes the pyrotechnic train which fires the projectile.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for the heat treatment of industrial wastes wherein at least some of the constituent materials of the wastes are subjected to combustion and/or to pyrolysis to produce flue gases and, in some applications, a residue. The supply of an oxygenated combustion-supporting gas to the wastes is regulated as a function of at least one sensed predetermined characteristic of the flue gases. The oxygenated gas may be a mixture of air and substantially pure oxygen, the feed rate of one or both of these being regulated in response to the sensed temperature and/or oxygen content of the flue gases. Such regulation maintains the oxygen content of the flue gases within the range of from 0 to 7%; and the temperature of the flue gases may be maintained from 400.degree. to 1200.degree. C. and, preferably within a range of 50.degree. C. in this region.
