  • Publication number: 20230134757
Abstract: The invention concerns processing which implements the following steps to estimate polarimetric parameters: In the cross power spectrum, identifying signal-containing lines and lines only containing noise; From the power spectra of each channel and from the cross power spectrum, deleting lines at the frequencies identified as only containing noise in the cross power spectrum; Calculating polarimetric parameters as a function of the power spectra thus corrected. Application to weather radars and other types of bipolar radars having coherent reception.

  • Patent number: 11156713
Abstract: The invention relates to a meteorological technique, and more specifically relates to a method for estimating a precipitation rate, which involves measuring, by means of a bipolar radar, the differential phase and the reflectivity of a radio wave, over a travel radius interval [r0, r1] where r0 and r1 are two points of the line of sight, where r0 coincides with a 0° C. isotherm in the case of snowfall, and determining the value(s) of the adjustment parameter(s) of a model of an intercept parameter N0* in accordance with r and a condition being the value in r0 of the intercept parameter varying in accordance with the radius and the adjustment parameter(s), which minimise, in the travel radius interval [r0, r1], a deviation between the differential phase difference between r and r0 and a function of the reflectivity Z, the condition N0*(r0) and the adjustment parameter(s).

  • Patent number: 7417577
Abstract: A method of estimating precipitation characteristics including acquiring a radar image including at least a vertical plane of a precipitation zone; processing a vertical profile to generate digital signals representative of reflectivity in vertical direction z; integrating the signals representative of reflectivity by assimilation of a reflectivity vertical profile in an aggregation model to generate a signal representative of the profile in the vertical plane of a mean particle diameter weighted by mass of each particle; and determining concentration of the solid particles on the basis of signals previously determined.

  • Patent number: 7158071
Abstract: A method of using a bipolar radar to estimate a precipitation rate for rain that generates negligible attenuation. The method includes using the bipolar radar to measure the differential phase ?DP and the apparent reflectivity Ze on at least one of horizontal polarization H and vertical polarization V over a given interval [r0, r1] of path radii relative to the radar. An estimate of the value No* representative of the dimensional distribution of rain drops is made on the basis of the differential phase difference in the range r0 to r1 and on the basis of an integral of a function of the apparent reflectivity Ze along the interval [r0, r1]. A value is deduced for the precipitation rate at a point from N0* and the apparent reflectivity at the point.
