  • Patent number: 5853953
Abstract: The invention provides novel polymers and photoresist compositions that comprise a photoactive component and use such polymers as a resin binder component. The polymers of the invention in general comprise at least one repeating unit that includes a moiety that has a high carbon content, and preferably is an aromatic group. Preferred polymers of the invention comprise at least one repeating unit that includes a moiety that is an extended aromatic ring, or polycyclic aromatic ring system containing 2 or more rings, preferably at least two of the rings being fused, and from about 3 to 8 ring members in each ring. Photoresists of the invention include both positive-acting and negative-acting compositions and contain a resin binder component that comprises the described polymer.

  • Patent number: 5854807
Abstract: The self-baking electrode suitable for use in an electric arc furnace comprises an elongated open ended electrically conductive casing for extending generally vertically within the furnace. A central core made of a heat conductive material is disposed within and spaced from the casing. A framework within is securing the central core to an inner surface of the casing for holding centrally the central core within the casing and for preventing an extrusion of the central core downward. The central core is surrounded by a carbonaceous electrode paste devised to cure into a solid electrode upon heating and to bond to the central core. This self-baking electrode allows the production of silicon metal in a Soderberg-type furnace without any modification to the usual slipping system or addition of another slipping system.

  • Patent number: 5854367
Abstract: The specification discloses a process for cationic polymerization of vinyl aromatic monomers, adhesive compositions containing polymers made by the process and use of the polymers as processing aids for thermoplastic polymers. In the process, a vinyl aromatic monomer is dissolved in an organic solvent containing a complex comprising an in situ formed ester of an unsaturated carboxylic acid and a Lewis acid to provide a polymer having a softening point above about 125.degree. C. and a polydispersity index above about 2.0. Surprisingly, the Lewis acid/acrylate complex causes the reaction to proceed with reduced exothermicity and enables an increase in the softening point and yield as compared with a polymer made without the complex or using other complexes.

  • Patent number: 5850690
Abstract: In a first step, electrical conductor tracks (15 to 20) are applied against the bottom and the walls of a cavity (5) for the integrated circuit (IC4) and connected to external contact pads (2) at the same side of the card. Said tracks lie alternately side-by-side at the bottom 7 of the cavity. In a second step, the IC (4) is glued with its surface which does not carry the contacts on said tracks on the bottom (7) of the cavity by means of a non-conducting glue. Then connections are realized by soldering of conductor wires (12) between contacts of the IC and ends of the tracks, and the cavity is filled with a protective resin. Application: Placement of an IC with inverted contacts in an electronic card support.

  • Patent number: 5851121
Abstract: The connector comprises a series of metal contact shafts (1) spaced and bent into elbow configurations, embedded in an electrically insulating material (2) which is itself surrounded by a metal shielding (3). Electrically insulating material (2) is molded around contact shafts (1), shielding (3) is made up of two superposed metal blocks (4a) having on their contacting surfaces elbow channels (5a, 5b, 5c) taking up contact shafts (1) surrounded by electrically insulating material (2), these channels being formed so that shielding (3) is interrupted in one rectilinear part of the elbow formed by the channels, this interruption of shielding placing in contact insulating material (2) surrounding the contact shafts, without creating any empty space in zones (7a, 7b) where the shielding is interrupted.

  • Patent number: RE36012
Abstract: Measurement-while-drilling apparatus includes a 14 MeV neutron accelerator, a near-spaced neutron detector which primarily senses source neutrons and whose output is proportional to source strength, one or more intermediately-spaced epithermal neutron detectors eccentered against the drill collar wall and primarily responsive to formation hydrogen concentration, and a third far-spaced radiation detector, either gamma ray or neutron, primarily responsive to formation density. The intermediately-spaced and far-spaced detector outputs, normalized by the near-spaced detector output, are combined to provide measurements of porosity, density and lithology and to detect gas. A thermal neutron detector and/or a gamma ray detector may also be provided at intermediate spacings to provide additional information of interest, such as standoff measurements and spectral analysis of formation composition. Tool outputs are related to the angular or azimuthal orientation of the measurement apparatus in the borehole.
