  • Patent number: 8007051
Abstract: In one aspect of the invention, a pick comprises a carbide bolster disposed intermediate an impact tip and a shank assembly. The impact tip comprises a superhard material bonded to a carbide substrate, and the tip is bonded to the bolster opposing a base of the bolster. The shank assembly comprises a central axis, a first end that protrudes into a cavity formed in the base of the bolster, and also an inducible attachment mechanism disposed proximate the first end. The inducible attachment mechanism is adapted to attach the shank assembly to the carbide bolster and restrict movement of the shank assembly with respect to the carbide bolster. The attachment mechanism may restrict movement of the shank assembly in a direction parallel to the central axis.

  • Patent number: 7862126
Abstract: In one aspect of the invention a degradation drum comprises a generally cylindrical body comprising inner and outer diameters. At least one degradation assembly is disposed on the outer diameter and it comprises a holder and a pick shank secured within a bore of the holder. At least one lubricant reservoir is disposed within the inner diameter and is in fluid communication with the bore of the holder through a fluid pathway. In some embodiments, the lubricant reservoir maintains a fluid pressure on the pick shank.

  • Patent number: 7301429
Abstract: In one aspect of the present invention, an induction resistivity tool incorporated into a downhole tool string component comprises an annular radial recess disposed along an outside surface of a tubular wall of the downhole component. At least one electrically insulated induction coil is disposed in the radial recess and adapted to transceive induction signals outward from the tubular wall when carrying an electrical current. The at least one coil is tuned for an optimal signal frequency and an actuator in the downhole component is adapted to put an electrically conductive element into and out of electrical contact with the at least one coil and thereby change the optimal signal frequency.
